A piece of folded notebook paper was now staring at me since it was sled across the table. I stared at the piece of paper, then at him. He pretended to be indulged in the cafeteria food. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. He wasn't fooling anyone; the cafeteria food wasn't anything to be excited about. And yet, he still avoided eye contact with me.I sighed and picked up the note, and carefully unfolded it.
What's your name? Was scrawled in messy handwriting. I picked up a pen from my backpack and scribbled back.
Why do you want to know? You haven't told me yours.
I then passed it back across the table. He eyed it before picking it up and reading what was inside. He gave me a crooked smile and hurriedly wrote something back before sliding it across the lunch table again. I opened it and read the inside.
If we're going to be friends from now on, we should at least know each other's names. I'm Kai
I raised an eyebrow in surprise.
We're friends?
I never had friends before. I was always too strange with my introverted ways.
He took the note and wrote back a reply.
Of course we are. Now stop answering my questions with your own.
I read the note and the corners of my mouth almost turned up. Almost.
Fine. Hi Kai.
He grinned at me for a moment before scribbling down something and looking at me eagerly as I read the note.
It's nice to meet you. Hey, you haven't told me your name yet.
I sighed again. He won't give up will he? I hurriedly wrote my reply when I heard the bell ring and I began to pack up. I stood up without seeing his reaction to the note and left the cafeteria once again. It was strange. I didn't know this person, yet he wanted to be my friend.
My name is Aiko.
