It was that time in Vanessa's life that she would be put into one of the land segments that divided the people. "Vanessa fox?" The red headed girl was one of the many people who would be put on a train to live with her "people." Nervously she made her way up to the stage and looked at the crowd. Before her was the government. Vanessa always knew she had been different, her twin died when she was born and the government had no clue whether she was the good or bad version of well herself. Her family was watching anxiously on the edge of their seats.
"Well.." a booming voice came from the governors chair. "She could be killed or." A gasp escaped her mouth but she forced herself to keep quiet until she couldn't anymore. "Kill me then, you won't succeed." No one in the history of the century known as the umbra (shadow) had talked back to the governor when being placed. The governor chuckled pursing his lips in demise, "I see, you're not a good girl, that crosses off Amare Pacem." Her parents buried their face in their hands of course wanting their little girl to be in the kind division, but that was no longer an option.
"Good that's not what I want," a hiss escaped her mouth, "but I would never kill a soul who did me no harm." "Vanessa Vanessa," his tone was lower now, "I guess that leaves you with the most risky and courageous group." She gritted her teeth and waited for it, "Bonum Hero!" Vanessa looked up from the ground and forced a smile of fake pride. After the ceremony her parents, James Fox, and Haley fox came up and approached her, "Honey, I'm sure you will do great," they were interrupted by a loud bellow, "all trains departing to new land segments in five minutes." Haley gripped her daughters hands, "I'm sure you will do great," James flashed a worried look, "don't let the government harm you the governor doesn't seem fond of you dear." Haley elbowed James in the stomach not wanting her daughter to hear that, but it was to late Vanessa had heard.
"I have To go," she said walking away without meeting their eyes again. As she got on the train little did Vanessa know that was the biggest mistake of her life.
