Maya Hart's dad left when she was seven. Maybe that's why we were such a great match.

I cried when she told me she was moving to California.

"Come with me," Maya pleaded after I had calmed down, and I looked up at her, hope glistening in my eyes.

"I want to, but my mom. Auggie."

Auggie. It was him I missed most. He wasn't old enough to chose where he wanted to go. My mom had won custody of Auggie, and I had stayed with my dad. That was before the crash.

"Mom, I'm moving to California."

She rolled her eyes at me, "You're only 16."

"I'm going."

And that was that. It has almost disappointed me that she didn't fight, but she never did. She only had custody of Auggie because she made more money. She didn't want us.

Like I didn't really want to move to California, but I did. Even though it never really felt like home.
