~~Meanwhile--Kristalyn's POV~~

I had been looking around for Jace for a while and still no luck. I was starting to wonder if I would ever find him in the crowd of people. While I was walking around, I overheard a few girls talking.

"I heard the prince is supposed to be here tonight. I wonder who he is."

"Didn't you know? No one's seen him since his mother, the Queen, passed away."

"I bet he's gorgeous."

"He could be anybody!"

"You're right. Let's keep an eye out!"

I sighed to myself. Just how clueless could these foreign princesses be? They just spoke about his mother's passing like it didn't matter. It obviously matters to Jace. And they thought they could find him when they don't know what he looks like, or his name from the way they spoke. I decided to ignore them for now and keep looking for Jace. At that very moment, music began to play and I noticed Danica dancing with someone, most likely Prince Ayato, and I smiled.

"Wow....."

At the tone of awe coming from the person, I turned to look at the person and it was the one person I had been searching for all night. I felt a bright smile spread across my face and I happily approached him. "I've been looking for you", I stated.

"A-And I've been looking for you", he said with a blush. "I should've just been asking for the most beautiful girl here instead of describing you to people."

I felt myself blush. "U-Um, thank you", I said.

"I-It isn't a problem to tell the truth", he said, making me blush more. We stood in silence for a few seconds before he suddenly started trying to talk again. "Let's go, um....I mean, if you wanna....we could, you know, uh go dance."

I giggled at his nervousness and nodded my head. "I'd love to dance with you, Jace", I said. His face immediately brightened up and he lead me to the group of dancing couples, showed me the proper position, and we started dancing.

"So, have you enjoyed yourself so far?", he asked. I nodded.

"It's a lot better now that you're here though", I said and he blushed. It was unusual. We hadn't seen each other in a while due to our jobs, but we were talking as if this was normal and I couldn't stop the pounding in my chest. It always happened when I was around him and one simple compliment seemed to mean the world to me.

We continued to dance, smiling and keeping eye contact the whole time. Due to the nature of the music, we danced close together. I found myself staring into his beautiful blue eye, wishing I could stare into his gorgeous golden eye as well, and getting lost in them. Without either of us really noticing, we moved closer and closer until our lips met in a sweet kiss. Once we separated, both of us had blushes, but there was no sign of regret anywhere in his eye and I definitely didn't regret anything. All of a sudden, I heard a whistle.

"Woo! Yeah, you go Kristalyn! Way to get the man!", Danica says from close by. I blushed even more, but smiled. While we were dancing, I happened to see what happened between Ayato and Danica.

"Don't think I didn't see you two kiss a minute ago too, Danica", I said, causing her to blush. By then, I felt a chill run down my spine and looked around the room. Sure enough, I caught sight of Jace's dad staring daggers at me with his usual smile. Jace, eventually, followed my gaze and sighed.

"I have to get going. He has to present me to the crowd", he said. I nodded and, to my surprise, he kissed me on the cheek before he left. As he left, I noticed a sparkle coming from behind his right ear. It looked familiar. I looked down and noticed my necklace glowing and it hit me. I looked over at Danica and caught sight of her smirk as I joined her with Ayato and watched Hestia talk to the foreign prince that had no idea what she was saying, but nodded anyway. It seemed that neither of them had noticed, but, then again, they didn't know what I did.

~~Jace's POV~~

I walked out of the ballroom and headed up the stairs right outside the door to get to the second level of the ballroom, where I would be presented, that way I wouldn't draw any attention by walking up the stairs inside. When I got upstairs, I was greeted by my father in the hallway and he didn't seem happy.

"What was the meaning of that?!", he snapped.

"What do you mean?", I asked. His scowl grew.

"You with that gem!", he spat. "You are betrothed!"

My eyes widened in shock. This was the first I had heard of this. "What?! But you said no one outside of the castle was to know about my eyes", I said. "Besides, I never agreed to this."

"It was decided recently and the situation has already been explained to her. You might as well get away from that gem now", he said. Before I could say anything back, my father pushed me into the room to introduce me. "Everyone, may I present my son, Prince Jace Bedros!"

I kept trying to talk to him about it, but I was shushed and ignored until a girl walked up beside me and grabbed my arm like it was the most natural thing in the world, even though I had no idea who she was at all.

"And, may I present Her Highness, Princess Sunobbu, my son's betrothed!", my father said. My eyes widened in shock as the strange girl kissed me in front of everyone and looked around in a panic when she finally released me. I spotted Kristalyn just in time to see her leaving, making my heart sink as the girl apparently called Sunobbu dragged me down the stairs and to dance.

~~Kristalyn's POV~~

My heart dropped when I heard the announcement and I ran out of the room when I saw Princess Sunobbu kiss Jace. I couldn't take it.

"Kristalyn!", Hestia called.

"Hey, Kristalyn!", Danica called too, but I ignored them both. It felt like my heart had been ripped out and thrown into the dirt to be stomped on. Why was this happening? Had Jace known about it? No. Why would he have kissed me if he had? Questions like that kept swirling around in my head, only making my heart hurt more, as I ran into a dark hallway and ran into His Majesty, the king. I stop.

"Something wrong?", he asks without meaning.

"No", I say, wiping my tears away.

"Oh, come on. That's an obvious lie", he said and sighs. "You do realize that he's only nice to you to get your power like I told him to do, don't you? It's so easy to see that. But he can't fake it anymore since he is going to be married to the one girl he loves. You might as well distance yourself from him now."

One he said that, he walked away without another word. I felt more tears steam down my face and I continued down the hallway, needing a place to cry alone for a while before returning to the ballroom.
