Chapter 1
I quickly packed my stuff and ran out of the school, heading straight for my car. I sent Bella a quick text telling her that I’m leaving. Although Bella and I don’t get along well, I know that somewhere in her she still cared. She’s only worried that I would take her spotlight and as long as I’m not, she’s pretty much nice to me, greeting me in the morning, leaving me alone in school, asking me for help on her homework, making sure that I had my meals and that I’m well.
She may appear to not care, but I know that she’s looking after me all the time. At school, all the nerds were picked on, except for me. Although people don’t understand the reason for me being an exception, they did not dwell on it. Due to being an exception, I actually have some normal friends. From time to time, some of the popular kids even come around and talk to me.
I checked my watch one more time to make sure that I wasn’t late. Five minutes left, I thought as I got out of my car and rushed for the door of the dance studio. I still have to change into my dance clothes. I hurriedly ran up the stairs to the fourth floor and went straight for the locker room. After getting changed, I locked everything away in my personal locker and joined the rest of the class in the studio.
Three hours of hip hop, all the breaking and locking. I’m just glad that I didn’t have ballroom dancing on the same day because I would have died. Two of the requirements for my ballroom dancing class is that every female must wear four inch heels and a long dress. I don’t know whether or not I’d be able to dance in those after three hours of hip hop.
James (the teacher) got into position and started warming up as the rest of us followed him. James is a cool teacher. Being only in his early twenties, he’s easy going, yet very talented. He sets very high expectations for every one of his students, but since he’s always joking around, it might appear that he’s never serious.
After fifteen minutes of warm up, we stretched for five minutes before we started reviewing all the routines that he taught us earlier. Since there were only seven other kids in the class, everyone was given a certain amount of attention. The eight of us are his best students, in his advanced class. We got the opportunity to do so many crazy things and it was seriously a fun class.
We ran through every routine three times, sometimes more if we’re not in sync. After that, James put on random songs and everyone had to come up with a solo. After three people, it was my turn. I closed my eyes and let the music flow through me. The one thing about dancing is that you have to clear your minds and just go with the flow. the more you think about it, the more you’re restricting your body to move. When I felt ready, my eyes snapped open and I was automatically in action.
I think that the hardest part about dancing is trying to put a dance together when the transitions aren’t smooth or remembering your own dance move. A dance is supposed to tell a life story, expressing of your feelings/emotions, something that flows like river.
James expects every one of us to be able to choreograph a dance by the end of the year. I was ahead of the game plan. I think that everyone’s just trying too hard. The more you try to impress someone, the harder it is for you to impress someone.
The next activity was choreography. Today was Adrian’s day. Basically, every week, there’s a different person who will teach the class a choreography that they came up with. If they get stuck, they can ask someone to help them with the choreography and I’ve found myself in many of those situations in which someone would come up to me after the session was over and set up a schedule with me so that I could help them with their choreography. I didn’t mind because it was fun working with these people. I try to make sure that I add a little something that’s different every time when I’m dancing or choreographing for the class.
Class ended before I realized and James decided to take us out for dinner. I pulled my phone out and gave my sister a call.
“I’m not coming home for dinner. There’s dinner in the fridge, just microwave it. Your salad and dressing is also in the fridge,” I told Bella.
“Where are you going?” she asked. I heard the fridge open and close in the background.
“James is taking us out for dinner,” I replied.
“Alright, call me when you’re coming home.”
“Okay.” I pocketed my phone and walked over to my car.
"Ready to go?" Adrian asked for the group.
"Yeah, where are we going?"
"Somewhere nearby," James stated. "What about Japanese?"
"How did you know that I was craving sushi?" I asked jokingly, but in truth, I was craving sushi.
"I'm a mind reader," he responded, tapping a finger on the side of his head.
I rolled my eyes and said, "You're lucky that I don’t have an older brother who could kick your ass.”
“Obviously, I’m not going to kick my own ass, so deal with it!” James informed me. Yes, he has always treated me like a younger sister ever since I met him.
“I hate you so much! Ugh! Why did I pick you to be my older brother?” I complained.
“That’s because you didn’t get to pick,” he argued.
“Whatever, I want my dinner,” I stated stubbornly.
“What’s with you and food?”
“What’s with you and getting on my nerves?”
“Alright, alright, let’s go. I’ll drive you home later,” he offered.
“What about your bike?” I asked.
“I’ll just leave it here. I’m staying over tonight, just drop me off tomorrow when you’re going to school.”
“It feels like you’re constantly taking advantage of me,” I commented.
“Say whatever, but I’m still staying over.”
“Yeah, yeah, whatever.”
James placed an arm around my shoulder and pulled me closer. “Let’s get you some food so that you can stop being so grumpy.”
“If you don’t stop annoying me, I swear I’m going to kick your ass and you know that I have the ability to do so.”
“Alright, I’ll stop,” he chuckled.
We finally got to the place that he was talking about and thankfully, we didn’t have to wait long for a table. We ordered and took our time eating. I ate as much as I could until I was completely full. We also asked for take out so that I could bring something home for Bella, though she never really eats like I do. I guess something else that I have over her is the fact that I could eat as much as I want and not gain a pound.
Trust me, Bella loves food as much as I do, but she’s always careful about the amount of carbs she intakes. There are many times when she eats too much and starts gaining weight. Those are the times when she would come to me and ask me for help because she doesn’t know that I don’t gain weight and believes that I work out so that I don’t gain weight.
There are way too many secrets between the two of us, but I can’t help it. I don’t want her to hate me because of certain things.
We said bye to the rest of them and James and I got into my car. I gave my sister a call and told her that James was coming over and that I brought food for her. I also promised her that if she thinks she’s gaining weight, I’ll help her get back on track.
