After the boy had run in during our breakfast, every one stumbled outside tripping over one another to see what had happened.
When we get out, there is already a crowd around the wall next to the dining hall. Kain looks at me confused and we both push our way to the front of the group to get a better view.

I stand there in shock. A girl in dirty, ripped up clothing was on the floor. She had a backpack on and her  feet were covered in cuts. She looked lifeless.

Whispers went all around and people were murmuring to each other. I just stare at her, wondering where she came from and who she was. Mrs. Evens pushes through the crowd and gasps when she sees her. "Oh my goodness. This poor child. Everyone stand back so she can have some breathing space. Just because we train you to fight and kill other people doesn't mean you can act like animals."

Everyone shuffles backwards and Mrs. Evens goes up to the girl. The girl's arm twitches and everyone gasps again. Mrs. Evens quickly helps the girl sit up and leans her against the wall. The girl's eyes shoot open.

Silence and shocked looks fill the front row of spectators around her. Garret, Kain and I share equal looks of shock and disbelief.

The girl's eyes are a mix of all the colors of the rainbow.

I watch the girl's eyes scan ours and I lock eyes with her for a brief second before I look down. She glares at everyone before she is lead away by Mrs. Evens.

The moment they leave the people who had seen her eyes go into an uproar. "Oh my, holy goodness. Did you see her eyes?"

"Yes they where actually kind of pretty."

"Are you kidding, when she glared at us it looked like she was going to chop our heads off."

I push myself away from the crowd dragging Kain with me.
"Mother Earth, what creature did you bestow upon us today." Kain says making, mocking praying motions towards the ground. I smack Kain in the head. "Hey stop your rambling."

Kain grins. "Now that I think about it, that girl was actually kind of pretty."
I sigh, "Is that seriously all you think about. I mean think about it, how did she even get here? From her cuts it looks like she was in the woods."

Garret joins us and puts a hand on my shoulder. "Hey buddy, stop worrying. Just be glad that another girl has joined the academy."

Another teacher walks out of the dining hall, Mr. Magise. "Students please go prepare for class, this little problem will be taken care of so don't fret about it. Classes start in ten minutes, if you are late to class you will run 4 miles around the school property. I advise you to hurry." Mr. Magise turns and leaves.

People stop talking and quickly start to head in the direction of their classes.

"I gotta go." I said. Garret nods and heads towards his class.
Kain waves and smiles, "Bye. Don't die on your first day. See ya."

I wave back and leave.

The bad thing about having Weapon making class is that it's on the other side of the school since, some of them have forges and nobody wants the school to burn down. I walk into the classroom and sit down in the first seat I see. "Hey aren't you Carter." I feel a tap on my shoulder and turn around to face the seat behind me.

"Yeh, how did you know." I say, feeling proud someone knows who I am. "Duh, almost half the school knows who you are. Even the freshman (1st year of high school) know who you are." I look at him in shock. "Really!"

"You better believe it. Remember that fighting tournament that was held at school last year and the winner got that ancient sword. Because you got first place everyone knows who you are now." I look at him sheepishly. I had totally forgotten about it.

Last year at the end of school, the principal held a huge tournament for this really old, cool looking sword. Kain signed me up and told me to win, and I couldn't cancel the registration since once you sign up you can't take it back. I won the tournament by pure luck. I made it to the final round and I had to fight against the number one fighter in the whole school. But  at the last second he tripped and fell off the stage. From the audiences perspective it looked like I flipped him off the stage since I had reached out at that exact moment he fell. So I was declared winner and I got the sword. (It's still in my closet.)

"By the way, I'm Rico." he said holding his hand out. I scan him. He has messy brownish, carrot colored hair and bright blue eyes. As much as I don't like shaking hands with people,  out of politeness, I shook it. "I'm Carter as you already know. Let's be good friends."

I turn back around just as the teacher comes in.

"Hello. My name is Mr. Smith. I expect full attention and effort in my class. You have already learned the basic forging skills in your sophomore year so I expect you to know some of the things I am teaching. I will give review for a couple weeks to refresh your mind. We will review how to make a basic bow out of things you may find in a forest this week. But first I want you to choose partners and sit next to them."

I look around the room, I don't know most of the people so I turn to Rico. "Partners." I say. He looks at me like I'm crazy I even had to ask. "Definitely."

I stand up and sit next to him. Once everyone had chosen partners Mr. Smith began speaking. "Okay these will be your partners for the rest of the year, unless of course I ask you to form groups of four or three." I hear some people groan in the back, the unlucky few who got partnered with someone they didn't like. Rico grins at me and gives me a thumbs up. I smile back.

For the rest of the class time I zone out of Mr. Smith's lecture until he dismisses us. I head to my next class. Training class.

I walk through the classroom door and find Kain already seated. I sit next to him and the teacher walks in. Mr. Dext. He gives us a long explanation about our class. In short terms it basically went like this. In this class the rules ..blah blah blah.. we train your body and gain strength.... blah blah... fitness.....blah.... meditation... blah blah blah... dismissed.

I hate the beginning of the years. The teacher give so many long boring explanations to the students that might have transferred into the school. Also they are giving longer explanations since, specifically, this year had many transfers and new students.

I trudge to my next class. Kain comes with me since we both share the same class again. Out of all my classes he has four out of the six with me.

Weapon training and hand to hand combat is our next class.
