Picture of Ava Matthews above.
The last day of summer. I couldn't believe it! There was still so much that I hadn't gotten a chance to do. Ava and I--wait, where are my manners? I totally forgot! I'm Jessica, Jessica Spears, and I'm from Michigan. My parents, older brother, Jackson, and I moved here from New York when I was 7. I'm 14 now (almost 15) so I've been living here for 7 years. I finished my last year of middle school at Miller High Middle School and I'm really excited because tomorrow, I'll be going to Grand Ridge High School with my bestie, (A.K.A. BAE) Ava Matthews.
"Jesica!" I heard my mom yell.
"What?" I yelled back.
"Could you come down for a sec.?"
"Yeah, sure. Give me a minute." I said as I raced out of my room and down the stairs, into the kitchen.
"You should sit down." My mom said, a bit quieter than usual.
"Ok," I said laughing nervously, "What's up?"
"So, um," my mom starts cautiously, "Your dad and I, we have a business trip that we have to go on--and before you say anything, yeah, it's mandatory. We'll be gone for about 6 months in Europe."
"Oh, um," I clear my throat, "wow, that's great," I say smiling, trying to be happy for them. "Am I going to stay at Ava's house then?" I ask hopefully.
"Unfortunately, no," My dad says. "Her parents are going to be going somewhere for around the same time as us, so we talked with them and decided," My dad takes a deep breath and I can see how hard it is for him to say the next few words that come out of his mouth, "That we're going to send you guys to a boarding school."
And that, my friends, is where I lost it. "What?!?!" I yelled loud enough so that my neighbors could probably hear, "No way! There has to be another way! Can't you guys hire a full-time baby sitter or something! I can't go to boarding school!" My parents sullenly shake their heads and that's when I got the reality of this all. I'm going to boarding school and I'm going to have to do everything I can, to stop it.
