Ginny and I hop off the train and I see the girl with bushy brown hair and slightly large teeth smiling at Ginny.
"Ginny- who is that girl?" I ask gesturing to the girl smiling at Ginny.
"Only the coolest girl on the face of the planet!" She jokes. "That's Hermoine Granger my brother and your brothers other best friend. She one of the best witches at Hogwarts, she's a Gryffindor too."
"Well it's nice to know that my brother has friends." I reply sarcastically. I hope Harry's a good person- from what Ginny's told me, he's liked- a lot.
"First years! First years! This way!" A very large man says.
Ginny's still looking around, a worried look on her face. She's still worried about Harry and Ron and I am too since I realised that the Harry Ginny's mother was worried about was my brother.
"Come in Ginny." I say pulling her over towards the large man. He leads us towards several small boats that Ginny and I hop into. The boats begin to move and I glance up at the sky.
I love astronomy, I read somewhere that there are more stars in the galaxy then grains of sand in the entire world. Somehow that comforts me.
"Lily look!" Ginny tugs at my arm and points in front of us. I gasp at the sight- Hogwarts castle.
I look around and notice that everyone else is just as amazed as I am. I adjust my glasses as the boats take a turn and we all get a better view of the amazing castle.
"Welcome to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry." The large man who introduced himself as Hagrid announced.
The boats pull up at the shore and Ginny helps me out of the boat as she is considerably taller than I am.
All of the first years are lead through the grounds and into the castle. We wait in the entrance hall where a tall slightly old woman introduces herself.
"Welcome students. My name is Professor Mcgonagall, head of Gryffindor house and teacher of transfiguration. In a moment you will be lead through theses doors-" she gestures to the large doors behind her, "and will be sorted into your houses. There's Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Wait here until I come back." She leaves through the doors as everyone begins talking about what house they'll be put in. I reach out and take Ginny's hand, she looks down and smiles at me.
I looks around at the other first years.
I see a girl with blond hair, the ends slowly changing to a light blue- probably due to the fact that she looks terribly anxious.
A tall boy with sandy blond hair looks as if he was praying- be he'll be a Hufflepuff.
Lots of people look like their friends- probably knew each other from some special wizards and witches daycare, one that Severus would never allow me to do to.
Professor Mcgonagall comes back and tells us all that she's ready for us. The large doors open suddenly and I'm greeted by hundreds of Hogwarts students seated along four long tables. Another long table is at the front of the Great Hall and seated there is all of the Professors.
I walk along with all the other first years and Ginny's brothers- Fred and George- make faces at us as we walk past. I smirk at Ginny and we make faces back at them.
Professor Mcgonagall stops at the front where several steps lead to and old wooden stool. The stool has an old battered hat rested on it and by the looks of it I can tell that it's the Sorting Hat- the one mentioned in Hogwarts A History.
The hat then comes alive almost, opening its mouth made of folds and tells us a very long and very boring poem about the four houses. I say it's boring because I already know it off by heart.
Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw, I say along in my head as I look up and notice thousands of lit candles all floating above us.
Everyone begins clapping and so I join in drawing my attention back towards the hat.
"When I call your name please step forward, sit down on the stool and place the hat on your head." Professor Mcgonagall explains. She unrolls a role of parchment and begins to read names.
"Crystal Azzuro."
The girl who's hair was changing to blue walked forward. After 15 seconds or so the hat called out "Ravenclaw!"
The whole Ravenclaw table cheered and shouted. I clapped for her- she looked nice and if I was placed into Ravenclaw then maybe we could be friends. Crystal hoped down from the stool and ran over to the Ravenclaw table. She took a seat next to a boy who looked much like her, only a year or two older.
"Peter Bell"
Ah- the boy who was praying. Let's see if my suspicion was right.
The hat called out after a minute of thinking; "Hufflepuff!"
Knew it.
"Stevie Dugan."
She was placed into Gryffindor.
"Skandar Gordon."
Slytherin.
Names kept being called out until it was just Ginny and I left. I was still holding her hand when her name was called out.
"Ginervera Weasley."
"Good luck!" I whisper to her and she nods her head and mouths 'you too'.
Ginny placed the hat onto her head it hat scrunched it's face in concentration.
After several more seconds the hat called out, "Gryffindor."
I watch Ginny as she sighs, takes off the hat and goes to sit next to her brother who she had pointed out as Percy.
At last my name was called.
Professor Mcgonagall looked almost confused by my name but Dumbledoor gave her a reassuring nod.
"Lily Potter."
Confused and muffled voices fill the hall.
Isn't that Harry Potter's mums name?
Has Harry Potter got a sister?
No- they must be cousins or something, Harry's never mentioned her!
I gulp as I walk up the stairs, take the hat into my hands, sit on the chair and place the hat on my head. It slips a little but I can still see everyone's confused glances as they look at me. Still- no one who looks how my brother was described to me by Ginny.
"Hmmm, Mr Potter's brother," the hat says into my ear, "I did not know about you.. Where to put you, where to put you? Your parents and brother comes from Gryffindor but I can sense great intelligence too- maybe Ravenclaw? I can see kindness, great for a Hufflepuff- but I also sense that you are cunning, which is a characteristic for a Slytherin..."
I must be Divergent I think, referencing a muggle book.
"But no- I know just where to put you..." The hat says.
My heartbeat quickens as I think where, where, where?
The hat then let's out a bellowing cry that everyone can hear;
"GRYFFINDOR!"
