Lovino stared at the beautiful tomato in front of him. He could get lost in the beautiful color of them for hours.
"Lovino!" A distant voice was calling to him, but he was to mesmerized to notice.
"There you are Lovi! In the tomato field! You've been spending a lot more time here recently." Antonio scooped up his chibi friend and started to bring him back to the house.
Lovino suddenly snapped out of it and his face was just about the same shade as the tomatoes.
"I can walk myself you stupid tomato bastard!!" Lovino wiggled out of Antonio's arms and ran into the house and up into his room.
"Stupid, Stupid Idiota!" Even Lovino wasn't sure who he was talking about. The confused Spaniard or himself.

Lovino woke up and rolled his eyes at how stupid he had been when he was little. No one meets their soul mate when they're still a chibi! He barely remembered his first set of foster parents, but he remembered his second very well. He had been fortunate enough to stay with him until he aged out of the program, but when Lovino turned 18, he left. Antonio never went after him or tried to stay in touch.
Lovino was halfway through eating his breakfast when he heard a knock at the door. At first, he just let it go, thinking it was one of those "knock and run" tricks that some kids he supposed were pulling on him. Then he heard a knock again.
"Ok, what is it!?" Lovino grumbled. He put down his tomato and shuffled over to the door. Like usual, when he opened it, no one was there. Although, out of the corner of his eye, he could have sworn that he saw a bouncing curl disappear around the corner.
Romano shook his head and went back to his tomato.
At the time, Lovino was able to shrug off the knock and run, but later in the day, it started to bother him. That was definitely not some kid pulling pranks on him. Someone was trying to reach him, but who? While racking his brain, he was reminded that he didn't have any friends, not even a sorta-kinda-I-guess-we-know-eachother friend.
He would never admit it, but Lovino still had a picture of Antonio stashed in his pajama drawer. When he was a kid, he would take it out and ask the picture of Antonio questions and talk to it when he felt like he couldn't talk to the real Antonio. He hid it in the same place then too, his pajama drawer.
It had been a while since he had done this, but Lovino spent then next hour just talking to "Antonio".
That night he had skipped dinner, and he ended up falling asleep holding that picture.

The next morning, Lovino was ready in case the knocker idiot came back. He pulled the chair next to the door, a tomato in one hand, and the other, ready to open the door. A small table was pulled next to him. On top of it was the last box of tomatoes he had.
Soon, 11:30 rolled around. The knocking idiot never came, and now he was out of tomatoes. Great.
(Lovino's Pov)
I buried my face in my hands. This is the first day in two months that I didn't get a knock. I didn't know it at the time, but I had received a new kind of hope from this whole thing. I was suddenly left with nothing. No hope that someone was looking for me. No hope that someone still cared. I had no friends, no family. No one. Nothing.I stood up and punched the door and felt tears start to stream down my face. Soon those tears turned to sobs. I slid down the door and curled into a little ball on the floor. I stayed there sobbing, screaming, and shaking until I couldn't feel anything anymore.
He spent the rest of the day wandering aimlessly around his apartment and eating vanilla ice cream.
