Author’s Note
Nearly a year ago, a series of mostly unfortunate events resulted in my creation of a Tumblr account. I had accidentally stumbled upon some fiction (can’t recall how) and then the very next day, during a sad car journey, my brain, desperate for some relief from dwelling, dreamt up a scenario, just a random sequence of events- which you can read as the first few chapters of In Other Words.. I sat down at my computer that night and began pounding at my keyboard, the words serving as welcome distraction and a way to pass the time. I am acutely aware that this is fan fiction and yeah, it’s a little embarrassing. So, it became my secret, one that I shared with all of you on Wattpad.
A few months ago, when I finished this fic and posted the final chapter on Tumblr, I can tell you that I felt very sad to be parting with these characters ; I’d grown to love them, so much so that I couldn’t bear the idea of dragging this story out just for the sake of keeping them around. It had run its course (and it was a long course, sorry) and it was time to bid Noxy farewell. I'm reliving that now.
Let me take a moment to thank all of you for your support. You’ve really been so incredible to me. I get messages from people that say they blew through the whole thing in two days, and people who say they’ve been reading since the single digits. I see you sharing my stuff on Twitter (the comments crack me up) and putting me on your recs pages, and I appreciate it so, so much.
Just to put things into perspective, this story rounded out at 164,744 words. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has 168,923 words. (You couldn’t have stretched it another 4k, L?) I think that’s a pretty incredible feat on both our parts, and how you managed to stick around to read this whole thing is beyond me. Perhaps if you had known better as to what you were getting yourself into…
