Chapter Fourteen
Niall’s POV
I sat our drinks down on the table and surveyed the room. Not my type of place, but I’d honestly follow this girl just about anywhere. I felt her and on my back and she slipped past me to stand at the other side of the table. I looked down at the table and counted three drinks. She must have squeezed one out of Harry. “Drinking like an Irish lass tonight, eh Roxy?” I said. She shrugged and smiled. “Were you able to make plans with the boys tonight? Or do I have to settle for just you?” She asked, taking a sip and leaning across the table to hear my response over the music. I had never noticed the freckles on her shoulders before, and I was distracted for a moment, thinking of how they reminded me of the stars at dusk, a few tiny specks on the canvas of the sky.
If she caught me staring, she didn’t show it. “It’s all set. We’re meeting them in half an hour.” I said. “I don’t mean to rush you…”
“This place sucks anyway, sorry I even brought you here. At least we ran into Harry!” she said. Her eyes flickered a moment and she leaned over again to me. “Help me find Harry a girl. I want to be a surprise wing-woman. You know, to show him that I’m cool.”
I laughed at her suggestion. If there was a girl in here that Harry was interested in, I know he was already working his charms on her, and didn’t need Roxy’s help. But, this would be entertaining. “Okay, how can I help, though?” I asked, finishing my drink.
“Well, what’s his type?” she said, standing on her toes looking at the potential lucky ladies.
“Human.” I said. She punched me lightly in the arm, and dragged me from the table, her drinks in tow.
“Come on! We don’t have much time.” She said. We weaved through the clumps of people and cocktail tables as she pointed out girls for me to evaluate against the Harry barometer. “How about the red-head over there?” she pointed. “I don’t think Haz is into gingers, Rox.” I said.
“I think she’s hot. I’m going to go for it. You stay here.” She said, finishing off the first of her drinks. “If we both go over there, she’s either going to try to steal you from me and then I will have to fight her, or she’s going to think we want to have a three-way.”
“It sounds like I should definitely go over there with you, then.” I joked, taking a seat in an open bar stool to observe. “Good luck!” I yelled as she headed off.
Roxy’s POV
The red-head was talking with some guy, but I could tell she wasn’t interested in him, since she kept checking her phone, praying for a text that could rescue her. The situation couldn’t be more perfect. “Hey girl!” I said, as I cut the poor guy off mid-sentence and went in for a hug. I whispered in her ear as I squeezed her “play along, I can tell you think this guy is lame.” She squeezed me back and I was on my way. We chatted casually, carrying on the act and ignoring the guy until he moved along. “Thanks for the rescue.” She said as she started to walk away, not realizing I had plans for her. “Wait.” I said. She turned back around to face me. “A friend of mine bet me that I couldn’t find one naturally beautiful girl in this bar. So, I was hoping you’d let me buy you a drink and introduce you.” I said, crossing my fingers she wouldn’t think the scenario was too crazy. “I just love your hair, by the way.” I added, which did the trick. Two minutes later we were on way over to Harry, drinks in hand.
Harry’s POV
The DJ was finally getting around to playing the songs I’d requested, as the bartender passed the latest round of drinks out to my friends. I could see Roxy making her way toward me, but Niall was nowhere to be found. She didn’t seem the gloating type, and I was hoping she was coming to say her goodbyes rather than to further bruise my ego.
