A month has passed since my only friend had to be killed. It was finally October. I heard a knock on the door. I swung the door open to find Corith standing out there in the cold night. He was wearing a dark hoodie with the same black pants. "What are you doing here ?" I asked coldly.
Corith sighed, "We... we need to talk."
"About what?"
"About... what happened months ago."
"Don't say any thing... about that."
"I have two questions... please just answer them."
"Is this a survey?"
"No."
"Fine, just ask them"
"Why did you... devour... Veridith?"
"I need to eat and I take every chance possible, and it helps increase my lifespan."
"Really?"
"Yes. What was your last question?"
"Um... Octover Day is tomorrow. Do you wanna hang out?"
"Are you lonely?"
"Yeah... Gartith has truly changed... and no one else likes me."
"Go ask someone else."
He sighed. "Fine... I'll see you around..." I quietly walked away from my home and walked into the forest. I could barley see him, but I could tell that he sat down by a tree and just sat there. I thought, 'This guy did make me kill my only friend, but he would die if he stayed outside on Octover Day.'
I went into my kitchen to make some tea. I looked at the clock and saw that it was 11:55. I knew it would be dangerous for me if Corith was still out there. I walked to the window that was closest to where I saw him. It started to rain, but I saw some movement in the distance. I knew it was a human.
I ran out side to get whoever it was so that I could stay alive during Octover. It was a tall, dark human that was against a tree. I picked him up and walked inside. Once we got inside I set him down on the wooden floor. The man opened his eyes.
"Why were you still outside my house Corith?"
"I-I was?"
"Did you pass out or something?"
"I-I guess..."
"You don't know what happened, do you?"
"No..."
I put my face into my palm. "Well, I'll go get you some tea..." I said impatiently.
"Um, before you go, why did you bring me in?" Corith asked innocently.
"Because the demons were coming and I didn't want a huge mess on my front lawn."
"Reasonable, but why are you acting so differently?"
"What do you mean?"
"Ever since your friend died, you've been more, how do I put this... serious? When I first met you, you were full of spirit and pride, but now you are just sitting inside waiting for a better future."
"You sure do like to talk." I laughed. Corith looked at me and then slightly chuckled.
"Yeah... I guess people can change once they lose something important to them." he said looking down.
I sighed. "I'll get some tea now."
I walked out of the room and into the kitchen that was right next to the first room. A dark figure was sitting on my counter right next to the tea leaves. "Oh, you're finally here!" the figure hissed. I stepped out from the shadows. It had light brown hair with lighter highlights. It was tall and lanky with sharp fangs. It had small bat like wings on it's back. It wore a formal, vintage red and black dress. "Oh god... another flyer." I groaned.
"You know it's Octovers so, may I crash at your place?" it hissed again
"Ugh, staying at a ghouls place is not good for one of you flyers. I do have a liking for roasted bat wings..."
"It's not like you could scare me off. You're only a child compared to me." It smirked, "You don't even know who I am, do you?"
"N-no, but I still don't think a flyer should be just sitting on my counter or even in my house."
"It's not your house. You killed the owner of the house."
"I know... I just had no other choice...."
"I came here to stay alive during the March of the Demons and to say that the house now belongs to the high Demi's and Immortals. It was nice talking to ya." She walked into the front room where Corith was loudly snoring. I quickly made some tea and walked into the front room where I found Corith sleeping and the flyer messing around with something in it's hand.
I sat down next to Corith on the cold, wooden floor. I gently nudged him to wake him up. He opened his eyes and looked at the tea cup. He smirked and said, "Thanks. It's kinda cold down here..."
I looked at him and said in an annoyed tone, "No problem."
He laughed, "Why the hell am I acting like the quiet innocent one? So, what the hell are we doing?"
"W-wha..."
"I mean, you're a ghoul! The only race that is above you is the immortals. I'm considered one of the the strongest and fastest humans! We can take down some demons just for fun!"
"Wow, you really do underestimate the demon race don't you?" the flyer said quietly. It was sitting with cords that lead to a small devise in it's ears.
"No... I'm just saying that we can easily survive in this storm of demons!"
I forced out a laugh. "N-no... I'm one of the w-weaker ghouls... I'm below the demons." I was sitting on my knee's.
"But you easily beat me."
"Because I took off my mask."
"What is that mask for?"
"I-it keeps me from going out to destroy anything in my path... if I take it off too much, It will shatter."
"We can just control it"
"It isn't tha... that actually might work... If we take it off gradually for long amounts of time I'll be fine once it breaks! The only problem is that it'll break faster..."
"We can just work you until you almost pass out each time!"
"Uhm... okay?"
"It'll work. Trust me!"
"This better work."
