"At the time I didn't know Pac was selling. I don't know why he didn't tell me his family was struggling so bad. We were all struggling but they were in even worse condition. One time they even almost loss the house and were homeless. He knew I would always be there for him and take care of him if he needed me. I had even got a job down the block. But I guess it was just his male pride that kept him from asking for help. Pac was very independent. Since his father wasn't there, he had to care for his family by himself."
Jada and Pac walked inside the store. It was a Saturday and the place was filled to the brim with people from school. Everyone was talking about the junior dance.
They sat at a booth waiting to order their food. Once their burgers and fries arrived they started to dig in. "So, are you going?" Pac asked. "To what?" Jada asked munching on a fry. She had skipped breakfast this morning and was really hungry. All she wanted to do was eat. "The dance." He said casually.
"Yeah, and you are too." She said sipping some of his soda. "Um, no I'm not." He said snatching it away. She snatched it back, "Yes you are Pac. You need to be involved in school for once." He rolled his eyes laying back in the booth. "I thought dances weren't your thing anyway."
She shrugged biting into her burger. "I thought I'd try it out this year." He watched her return to her fries. "You must be really hungry." He murmured. "Yeah, I skipped breakfast." She replied a mouth full of fries. "Fat ass." He muttered with a smug grin on his face.
She looked at him, her eyes full of horror. "Fuck you!" She said slapping his arm and he laughed. "Aye, don't be hitting me, alright?" He said trying not to laugh. "Or what?" She dared. "Or you'll regret it." He replied, smugly.
"Mhm, sure." She said sarcastically finishing her burger. He looked up as the waitress came back. "Are you guys ready for the check?" She said with a bright smile, particularly at Pac. "Yes,"Jada said opening her purse. Pac stopped her, "Nah. I got you." Jada stared at him puzzled as he pulled out a stack of money, counted his change and handed it to the waitress who smirked at him taking it.
But Jada just said thank you and didn't question how he got all that money.
"The waitress definitely liked you," Jada joked as they walked down the streets and the sun started to set. "Really? I didn't notice," he said smiling at her. Pac never noticed anyone else when he was with Jada. She was his world, even if they weren't dating.
"She was practically drooling all ova' you." Jada said laughing some more. Pac just smiled down at her and tightened his grip around her shoulder. "So.." She started.
"What?" Pac asked curiously. "I've been thinking. And I decided I want to go to the dance. And I want you there too." Jada said sternly. Pac rolled his eyes groaning. "Fine."
"Good, you'll be my date." Jada said. Jada's date. Pac nodded. "Oh and is that your way of asking me?" Jada shook her head. "Nope, that's my way of telling you."
Pac laughed. "Alright Jada, you got it. Anything for you."
