Anna
Hours passed I and Marfa finally reached our destination, a clinic here in Petrograd whereas Marfa knew well, and I am going to see the doctor of the clinic, Doctor Konstantin Vasilyovich, it's been a six days since Ekaterina had the coughs, everyday I checked her to see if any changes happened, at least I am ninety percent sure that she has no Tuberculosis because it wasn't evident.
As we walked through the door, Marfa suddenly interrupted my thoughts, "Anna did you hear the ne-news?" She said in a very shaky tone and gulped hard, and it was an evidence that she was going to say a bad news, and it made me curious, why is she gulping so hard? Is it a very bad news? If it is, does it affects me?
"What news?" Though worried, I managed to say it in a calm way than hers
"I will tell you later when we are done with the Doctor" she said then leaded the way when we were stopped by guy in a winter uniform, he was tall and slender but broad shouldered, he had a black hair and plain blue eyes, too simple to look at if you are going to ask me, but he was somehow gorgeous.
Now, I am silently complementing a man
"What is your agenda now Marfa?" He asked and it then suprised me a bit that he knows about Marfa, so he was a security officer of the clinic?
"As usual, visit my favorite doctor" she replied with plastered smirk then she grabbed my arm and we continued on our tracks.
"Sorry about that Anna, Dimitri is just really annoying at times, so obvious that he still asks" she then rolled her eyes and let go of my arm and she crossed hers, I can say she was pretty annoyed to the fact that Dimitri was proven annoying as like other men in these world, then a thought came to my head then I smirked.
"So Marfa, that Dimitri boy is your boyfriend? Why aren't you telling anything?"
"Because he isn't" she exclaimed and walked angrily, I think I just made this woman angry just because of a question meant to be a joke, sometimes jokes are not funny as we expect it to be.
Well, that was a first for a prankster like her
As we seen an opened door, Marfa said it was the doctor's office so we went there and saw a guy in his lab coat and was actually cleaning his things when Marfa interrupted him.
"Dobryy den' (Good afternoon) Tony!"
"Oh Marfa, dobryy den', so how are you" I then saw Doctor Konstantin in personal, he was tall and slender with blonde lock and grey eyes, look a bit old but his posture denied that.
"Fine thank you as always, may I introduced you Anna, Anna this is Doctor Konstantin Vasilyovich and Doctor this is Anna" I said my hello as well as he, I could say he was kind by the way he spoke at me and looked, he insisted that we should sit and asked what was the problem, Marfa looked at me and squeezed my hand assuredly, then I took a deep breath and sighed.
"Well you see doctor, my mother Ekaterina is having coughs for almost a week now and I am very worried, she wasn't like this before, she never had this before even" with that, he thought deeply...
"What other symptoms do you saw?" He asked and got a piece of paper and his fountain pen and looked at me questioning
Well, let me remember, first, obviously she was coughing...with phlegm, second I noticed she is often fatigue, easily tired, I also noticed she was having chest pain and shortness of breath, and last two days, she has high fever...
This was definitely bad
I told the doctor the symptoms I noticed often, he look damn serious which it made me anxious, what is her illness? Is it bad? Is it mild or is it contagious? I didn't noticed I was already sweating.
"I am going to be very honest with you Anna, these symptoms are common when it comes to respiratory illness, though as far as I know, these are common symptoms of...how should I say this?" He looked at Marfa, he seemed so hesitant, I noticed he trembled a little, "Anna..."
"Doc?"
"Anna, these are symptoms of...pneumonia"
Then I think the colors had drained from my body, maybe...I looked like a ghost or saw a ghost, Marfa squeezed my hand in assurance, not letting it go, I decided to looked at her for a glance then went to the doctor who was saying that my beloved adopted mother has pneumonia, goodness please tell me that I am only dreaming! If this doctor was lying, heaven forgive what will I do.
"Are you serious?" I knew I let rage took me and it's quite bad, Marfa gazed at me and gave her most serious face that I know so well, I shook my head to reassure myself that I wasn't dreaming.
"Anna...I am sorry, but these things just really come when the time we thought that-"
"That what?"
"That we thought it's impossible or never expected..."
He gazed at me like he was piercing through my very soul, his eyes was low and his lips firm like a wise old man, then the awkward silence filled the mahogany colored room, until someone decided to break it.
There was a knock. I saw a familiar jet black hair and plain eyes, this must be Marfa's secret crush...again, he looked for Doctor Konstantin and found us first hand.
"Dimitri, what could I do for you?" Konstantin asked
"Doctor Konstantin, the Boscotovich family is here and are eager to see you as soon as possible"
"Ah of course, little Peter is here for his third month check-up, please kindly tell them that I am preparing"
"Of course Doctor"
Dimitri left us three with awkward silence swirling around the flourish room...again, Marfa looked at me with furrowed eyebrows like she was telling me something that I didn't know.
And then, the doctor broke it, he said he would be having an appointment with an important patient and who am I to intervene? So I decided I should go. He said I can schedule another time for my mother.
If there is another time...
