With a twist of the key and a slight push at the door, Maximus entered his house. The smell of freshly baked goods hit his nose, he licked his lips at the thought of something which could be awaiting for him to be eaten.
With a smile on his face, he made his way to the kitchen but came to an abrupt stop when he saw his parents and a woman - a stranger- standing behind the table which was set in the middle of the kitchen.
"Max!" Mrs. Lyod said brightly, her pearly whites on full view. "I'm so glad your home." Heading towards him she wrapped her arm around his shoulder and guided him towards the woman, who was almost in tears nonetheless she still smiled when their gazes met.
"Veronica, meet Maximus." Extending her hand, she offered Max to shake it. Grasping his hand in her's, he let go after a slight shake. "Max, meet Veronica."
The awkward tension hung over them like a dark cloud until Mrs. Lyod cleared her throat and clapped her hands together. Leah, had always been a cheerful woman, a quality which Max admired about her and wished to have.
"As you know Max, we are not your biological parents and I- we- thought it was time we contacted your birth parents and surprisingly we found out that Veronica, was happy and willing to meet you."
Maximus furrowed his eyebrows in confusion, not about the fact that the news was a surprise to him. He had always known that these weren't his birth parents and there were times where he had wished for that they actually were. Mr. and Mrs. Lyod had considered Max as their own son from the start. What surprised him was, Why would his birth parents would like to meet him now?
"We'll leave you both to talk." Said Mr. Lyod speaking for the first time, together they both left the room, the doors shutting behind them. Maximus and Veronica- the woman who had gave birth to him- were in the same room. Maximus felt as if he was suffocating under the gaze of his mother. The word felt foreign when he thought about saying it to her.
Veronica opened her arms wide and moved to embrace him but Maximus took a few steps backwards and shook his head, his eyes filling with tears. "Why? Why now?" He managed to croak out, his heart was racing and multiple questions were forming in his mind, ready to be said but Maximus bit his tongue and refrained from doing so.
A sigh emitted from Veronica's lips, "I know you must be upset Maximus but just let me explain" She said desperation lining in her voice. She was hoping that his reaction would've been much more happier than this one.
"Why are you here? You made it clear that you didn't want me when you put me up for adoption." Big salty tears were trailing down his cheeks like waterfalls, "After 17 years of my life you suddenly want to meet me?! How can you assume that I would happily run into your arms when I don't even know you." Maximus felt as a storm of emotions was swirling inside him, getting stronger by the second, waiting to be let out.
"Max, please try to understand that-.." Veronica started to say, the love of her child was shining in her eyes but Maximus was blinded by too much anger and hurt to see it. For the past 17 years of his life he thought, Was he not good enough to be accepted?
That question had haunted him, always looming on the back of his mind. It was an excuse which his demons could use and every time, he lost control. Control over his emotions, his faith, hope- everything which was important in life to him and before his eyes, he watched his life crumble, collapse into a pit of void, never to be seen or heard from again.
Veronica took a deep breath which seemed to calm her raging nerves, "Max, I'm sorry. I-I just wanted to meet you and hoping that you would feel the same was a mistake. And never think of yourself as someone low or one who in incapable of doing something because the truth is, you can go to such great lengths that you, yourself will be amazed by what you've become."

Awn, No Rebekah here but not every chapter can be filled with their memories because life not only revolves around a single person -looks at Misha Collins- okay, I take back all of it. It probably can.
But anyways, What did you think?
Do you think that Maximus is being a jerk?
Or is it suitable for Veronica to show up out of the blue?
And, do you really enjoy the taste of pickles and pizza together?
One, last thing. Now you'll probably be wondering, Why does she update so much?
WELL, I am known to lose commitment and get distracted very easily. So unless, someone wants to leave this story discontinued which I do not want, I'll continue to update it.
