*Sophia's P.O.V.*

In Sophia's diary:

Dear Diary,
I would say my first day wasn't the best. I obviously expected it. At least they noticed me there. I'm better off noticed then ignored. I really hope I make friends. Valeria was a mess. I shouldn't judge a book by its cover. Looks nice. Is mean. What can we do? Nothing. Mom told me to endure it till I find someone. I'm sure I will. At least I'll try to. The world's filled with beautifully nice people. And Layton High should have at least one kind of that person. Right? Anyways, I gotta go. I'll keep myself updated on my melanoma high school life.

*Day 2 in Layton High

Sophia was ready for day 2. Making friends was going to be hard. Especially because the teenagers in Layton High were so judge-mental about facial looks and not inner beauty. Sophia didn't possess facial beauty on the outside. However, her inner beauty showed how peaceful, calm, benevolent, compassionate, and congenial she really was. And, somehow, the rest of the world couldn't see that. No one. No one, except for Ella.

As her second day passed by, Sophia recalled that it was practically just a repeat of day 1. The same lame, old, discourteous, insulting and abusive comments. The same classes. The same "having no friends." And, when the clock struck 12:15, Sophia reckoned lunch was going to be the same too.

Lunch was the same. The same revolting lunch. Today, it was dried- up spaghetti with dried- up, hard meatballs. Did Sophia eat it? No. Why? 2 reasons:

1-Sophia was used to eating good food. If she couldn't get good friends, her mother made sure she got good food. She wasn't used to eating school food. Nasty school food.

2) She was being compared to the meatballs. They called her 'the melanoma meatball.'

It was in chemistry when the teachers asked Sophia about something that made her be the strongest person she is today. That's when she explained the melanoma she has since she was 4 years old and how it made her stronger and more confident in who she is. The students, obviously laughed it off, because Sophia didn't mention that melanoma can kill her.

So, she was sitting in lunch, playing with her fork and meatballs. She looked at them and wondered if she really looked like one. She tried not to take their comments offensively, but, sometimes, she thought their comments made sense. Sophia's face was also dried-up and crusty. Her face had dark-brown lumps, that slightly looked like meatballs. Just as she was about to grab her phone for a real comparison between herself and the meatball, a gentle, soft pat tapped her shoulder.

It was a girl. Short brown hair. Brown eyes. She was in basketball shorts. She sort of looked like a guy to Sophia. But, her actions proved to Sophia how kind-hearted she was.

"Hey! I'm Ella. Ella Montgomery."

"Hi. I'm Sophia Collin. You might have noticed me from the halls. The Godzilla or the melanoma meatball, that's what they all call me."

"No. To me, you're just Sophia. Sophia Collin. Nice to meet you. Would you like some of my lunch? I have a turkey sandwich. My mom packed me two."

"No. You don't need to give up your lunch for me. Thank you."

"I would be delighted if you ate it. I know you're hungry."

Sophia and Ella already started talking. Sophia liked Ella. Especially, when Sophia decided to introduce Ella to her other friends. Her other friends, who were exactly like her.
