Chapter 21: Suicide

I waited on the porch for Bella to come back. My mom was inside the house discussing important matters. Feet padded on the porch as they approached me. The person sat down beside me and sighed. I slowly looked towards the boy with raised eyebrows. He gave me half a smile. I waited for him to speak up.

"I am not patrolling tonight." He spoke up. I nodded in acknowledgement. He nodded and looked down at his feet. "Listen, Avery. I am sorry I didn't tell you. I was just trying to wait for the right moment."

"It's fine, Jared. I am not mad at you." I stated. He sighed not really believing me. Bella came up with Jacob who were discussing. Bella glanced at me and opened her mouth to speak.

"Do you need a ride?" She asked. I nodded and stood up. Jared watched me walk to her truck and get in. I waved goodbye and waited for Bella to pull out of the driveway.

She dropped me off as I bid her goodbye. I watched as she pulled out of the driveway. I turned around and almost jumped out of my skin. Jared laughed and shook his head.

"Sorry, didn't mean to scare ya." He said cheekily. I shook my head in disapproval. I walked up to the house and opened the door. Jared followed after me and shut the door behind him.

"How did you even get here?" I asked. He sent a huge grin my way.

"I ran." He stated the obvious. I rolled my eyes and mumbled an 'of course'. "I thought you could use some company."

"I am fine alone but alright." I said as I walked upstairs. His footsteps followed my movements. I opened my bedroom door and went through my drawer. I pulled out some clothes to sleep in. "I will be back."

"Alright, I will be waiting." Jared stated. I went into the bathroom and changed. I walked back out to see Jared lying down on my bed. Jared had a smug look on his face. The daggers were placed on the bedside table. "You're not going to hurt me with those, right?"

"Why?" I asked with a dumb look. He shrugged and made himself comfy. "What? Do you plan on sleeping over?"

"Maybe?" He asked. I sighed but couldn't help a smile creep onto my face. My hands moved him over to make room.

"Do not touch me while I am sleeping." I ordered. "This is a privilege, not a right."

"Alright, alright." He agreed. "Just so you know, I am here to keep you protected."

"Whatever. Now, shut up." I demanded as I closed my eyes.

I woke up to someone shaking me.

"Not again." I whined. I opened my eyes to see Jared with a panicked look. I rubbed my eyes and sat up. "What's wrong?"

"Well, Harry just died of a heart attack. Also, Bella jumped off a cliff." He stated. I jumped out of bed and grabbed my daggers.

"How long was I asleep?" I asked. He sighed and placed his hand on his forehead.

"It's 5 o'clock in the evening. So, you slept for awhile." He stated. I picked up a pillow and threw it at him.

"Why didn't you wake me up?" I shrieked.

"You looked peaceful." He said innocently. I rolled my eyes and grabbed some clothes. I ran into the bathroom, changed, got ready, and ran back out. I ran to the bedside table and grabbed the daggers. Jared watched every move I made. I grabbed my keys while I grabbed his hand.

"Come on, lets go." I demanded. I ran outside with him behind me.

"Hey, I will go check on the Clearwaters. You go check on Bella." He instructed. I thought about the whole situation and decided not to go against it. I hopped into the truck while Jared ran into the woods. He changed into his wolf form and took off. I started up the engine and pulled out.

I pulled up just in time to see Bella's truck pull in. I jumped out and slammed the door shut angrily. I marched over to the truck to scream at her. She glanced at me with a worried look.

"Idiot." I shouted. Jacob watched me intently.

"Avery, Alice is here." Bella stated as she hopped out. Jacob started protesting against it. I was surprised to hear that a Cullen was back.

"I'll go in." I told Jacob as I followed in Bella's footsteps. I opened the door to see Bella hugging Alice who was scolding her. I was shocked to see her. Lizzie was standing beside Alice with a grin. My hands hovered over the daggers that were placed in their holsters. My phone buzzed in my pocket which caused me to jump. Everyone stared at me with curiosity eyes. I sent them a sheepish smile before answering. I placed the phone to my ear just as someone started shouting through the speakers.

"Avery, where the hell are you?" The person shouted. The girls stared at me with small smiles.

"Jared, shut up. I am at Bella's house and I am fine." I reassured. He sighed then made a noise.

"I smell leech. Is it that red-headed leech?" Jared asked through the phone. I pulled the phone away from my ear to inspect it.

"Can you smell things through the phone?" I asked. He laughed and denied. "No, it's Alice Cullen."

"Goddammit, Avery. Get out of there." Jared shouted. The girls excused themselves to talk. I kept arguing with Jared before Jacob came in.

"I got to go, Jared." I stated. "Don't worry, Jacob is here."

"Oh, like he would do any-" I hung up the phone and watched Jacob run in to the living room to see Bella just fine.

"He is making sure you are still human." Alice stated. A knock was heard as I went to go answer. I was expecting it to be another Cullen but instead it was Jared. My face went from happy to depressed.

"Oh, thank god." He said as he breathed. "I thought the leech got you while you were on the phone with me."

"Avery, who is at the door?" Lizzie asked. Alice excused herself so Bella and Jacob could talk.

"A mutt." I replied. Jared glared and took a glance around. Lizzie came up to the door with a questioning look. Screaming was heard from the kitchen. I ran to see what was going on.

"Bella, Edward is going to the Volturi to ask to kill him." Alice shrieked. Bella shook her head.

"We need to save him." Bella stated. Alice started getting everything together as Bella started packing her things. Jared leaned over with a question.

"You're not going, right?" He asked. I shrugged not really knowing. "Avery."

"Bella, you can't be serious." Jacob whined. Bella kept telling him that she will be alright. We all went outside.

"I am going." Lizzie stated as she got into the car. Jacob stuck a hand inside and pleaded her.

"If it makes you feel comfortable, choose someone you trust that can protect me." Bella answered to his pleading. He glanced at me with pleading eyes.

"Fine, I will go." I gave in. "But if I die, I am haunting you. All of you."

Ooh, almost done with New Moon. Then we will go into Eclipse.
