Paint The Sky

"Sunsets don't normally scream, Cecil." Carlos pointed out, looking amused. We were situated on the hood of his car, just like before, oh so long ago.

"It started a while back, it's normal now." I retorted, pulling my gaze away from the horizon to look at Carlos.

He looked beautiful in the golden light. I mean, he always looked beautiful, never failed to take my breath away. His perfect black hair, with just a touch of distinguished gray near the temples was imperfectly perfectly messy as always.

I was snapped out of my thoughts by his voice, "Nothing's normal here in Night Vale." He returned with a small smile. I loved his smiles.

Kicking the one leg hanging off the edge, I shifted the one I had folded beneath me before continuing, "Everything's perfectly normal." I defended half-heartedly, turning to look back at the sunset, a slight smile playing across my features.

Carlos sighed, I could hear he wasn't really annoyed as he leaned to the side and brushed my shoulder with his own, overlapping his hand over mine, "Now say it with a straight face."

It may be hard to tell sometimes, but it can be difficult to report on the news with a straight face at times, and the scientist next to me knew that. There was a small pause as I struggled to work up the calm to do so, and then sighed, defeated. "Everything's perfectly normal." I began, "It's the people that are all different."

Carlos laughed, I adored that wondrous sound and couldn't help but laugh quietly along with him, "Is that your take on it?" He finally asked.

"Well, of course. Everyone is strange to everyone else. We would look strange to ourselves if we were looking through another's eyes. Although, don't try doing that literally, eyes don't work well after being disconnected from the skull." I answered with a shrug, smiling softly at how perfect this situation was.

"Do you think you're strange to me?" Carlos asked suddenly. It wasn't done in the tone he took on when he was being serious, in fact, it was almost teasing.

Tearing my gaze from the sunset once more I grinned, "I think I'm especially strange to you."

As if in response the tattoos visible trailing up my arms began to wiggle and dance, like they were agreeing.

Carlos nodded and grinned back, he was just so beautiful, "Of course you are, and I wouldn't have it any other way." He answered, flinging the arm that had previously with his hand atop my own around my shoulders, pulling me in close.

I wrapped one arm around his back and rested my head on his shoulder, watching the last of the sunset fade into the inky dark sky. It was a hard color to describe, especially with the stars changing color so often.

I don't know how long we sat like that, I don't really care to know. However long it was, during every second, the sky was painted beautiful colors, I think it was the emotions I felt spilling over. Love can paint the sky it seems.

((Next one will be longer I know this is super short but I wrote it like a week ago))
