Chapter 17 { Part 2 } – Long Lost and Refound
[ A/N: The song on the right is the song that they dance to on the rooftop. I suggest playing it around then. It honestly sets the mood. ]

Avery’s POV
“No, I did not bring you in here just for that.” Zayn pushed off the wall and took my hand, pulling me back towards the fire escape. He stepped back to let me climb up before him, pulling himself up behind me. “Go on up, darling,” he whispered in my ear, fingers pressing against the small of my back. My breathing caught and I needed to remind my heart to beat, his simple touch sending shivers through my body.
I started up the metal stairs, fully aware of Zayn’s hand pressing against my spine as it meticulously made sure that I kept my balance. Every time my feet pushed off of another stair, my breath slowed in anticipation. I climbed step after step, until there was no longer rickety metal under my feet but solid cement. It was no longer dark as it was in the alleyway, and the evening sun shone warmly. It highlighted Zayn’s chiseled features and draped the world in a rosy haze. I blinked in the glare, shielding my eyes, and turned to watch Zayn. In the light, he looked not like a teenage nobody, but like someone who could go somewhere with his life. He was capable of so many great things. His eyes stared off into the distance, as if he was imagining the places he could go. The thoughtful look on his face was incredibly mesmerizing, and I had a sudden urge to meld our bodies together in an emblazed show of affection. I reached my hand up to his cheek and cupped his jaw in the palm of my hand. His eyes flitted towards me, framed by his long eyelashes.
Leaning his head into my neck, he placed light kisses in a trail along my skin. Wherever his soft lips touched, my skin was set alight with a fiery passion that I had never felt before. I leaned into his body, breathing in his scent, and hummed lightly with contentment. I wished that the moment could last forever, framed by the soft light of the sunset.
His head came up from my neck, and his lips met mine. We moved together, working perfectly in sync and fitting together in all the right places. I entwined my fingers in his hair, pulling him closer and embracing his touch.
I felt as if the world was built for the two of us, like my life was finally lining up.
Zayn pulled back reluctantly, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. I looked past his lashes and into his chocolate eyes. His irises were almost completely swallowed up by his pupils. “Come on,” he whispered, taking my hand and pulling me on. He walked us towards the edge of the rooftop and carefully sat down, swinging his legs over the raised ledge that ran the perimeter of the roof. I hesitated.
“Don't be so scared,” He tugged me down beside him and wrapped his arm around my waist. “I’ll keep you safe.” I snorted.
"I can take care of myself, smartass." With a smile I leaned into his touch, my head resting on his shoulder. We were directly facing the sunset, our feet hanging over the sidewalk. People milled by, no one stopping to look up at the boy and the girl whose thighs were touching just slightly. They all rushed past each other, in such a hurry to get on with their lives, not wanting to be slowed down in the slightest. At this moment, I couldn’t grasp the idea of ever wanting to move faster, I wanted to stay here, Zayn’s arm around me forever.
“Wait, I just remembered,” Zayn mumbled, his arm retreating from my waist. I waited as he fumbled through his jacket pockets until he found what he was looking for. His hand reappeared, clutching a packet that was all too familiar, and a lone cigarette. With a sigh, he pressed the pack into my fingers. “I hadn’t given you this week’s packet yet, so here you go.”
