Cory had decided that it was finally time to reproach the girl about her reaction and try to figure out why. It seemed to be too late as Maya was too far into her own world that little drew her out. She had fallen asleep and they wished not to disturb her, but though she looked innocent and as if her life had no history, her thinning body was a different story. Even in Maya's sleep, she knew of facing dinner when she woke. She felt remorseful for letting herself fall into a deeper sleep then normally, but next to her best friend, in a warm bed, it was easy to slip into what she had missed so much of. Cory hated shaking her. She was now awake, but she buried her head further into the pillow, longing for the rest she rightfully deserved, though she found it as herself being greedy.
"Do we have to?" She heard him say, quietly.
"Yes." Replied the whisper of a lawyer with a tint of harshness.
"You do it."
"Fine." Topanga made her was confidently to the girl, but upon placing her hand on Maya's shoulder, she relented.
"Maybe we can save her dinner. Clearly she needs the rest." The words faded from the fog in Maya's head, blending in with dreams until they twisted into memories and the blackness from her closed eyelids became the dark closet of her bedroom at midnight when the moon did not shine much and she could hear him open the door to find her right where any child could be found almost immediately.
She woke to an empty room. Hours of sleep were still to be caught up on. But she feared what she desired. Sleep.
Maya lied back on the bed. She was over the covers and a blanket had been placed on her while she slept. The moment of rest mocked her when she forced herself up. On the window was a pile of neatly stacked clothes with a little note card from Riley telling her to shower and change when she woke. The red life guard sweater belonged to Maya but had been forgotten there when she was much younger. She wondered if it was a joke. She was fifteen now and would surely never fit into that again in her lifetime, but she found that not to be true when she replaces her sweater with it after her shower and it hung loosely on her, but comfortably. Like a blanket. She placed the pants on as well to find them also large, but they stayed on. After brushing her hair, she returned to Riley's room to find her friend there. She felt as if she were still in a dream, or perhaps walking on a cloud. Maybe even through. She joined Riley at the window and looked out at the snow filled December streets, that would ensure her safety for just a bit of time. It was a slightly odd time for that amount of snow, but she did not care. She just wondered if it was a blessing or a curse, if he had not understood why she did not return home that evening. It was not necessarily that he didn't understand, actually, but more of an excuse to hurt her more. She would have prayed that he would be in a good mood upon her return, but she knew better then to pray for herself. That is what she told herself.
Maya was gone before Riley woke, having made her way through the deep snow. She would come to regret it when she accidentally woke him, losing her virginity that day to her mothers boyfriend. The screams woke up her mother who raced out into the room in concern to find Adam on top of her squirming daughter.
"Mom, help."
"I want to baby, I can't."
"I fucking hate you." She screamed as Katy sat, putting her hands over her wet eyes.
"Relax." He whispered to her, planting a hand on her tense thigh and trickling it up to her groin. "Give up. You're never going to win. Just accept what you deserve." He moved forward. Maya's muscles slowly relaxed. "Good girl." He whispered.
