Malia's POV

"Oh goodie! I look like every worse trash than I already am!" The sarcastic voice of Stiles cut through my concentration and I sent him a glare.

"I don't think I could possible make you look worse, Stiles. You've already hit that level." I snap and the boy groans as he drops his bag to the ground. We were both dressed in complete rags, trying to fit in with the look of desperate serfs looking for a job. Both our eyes shift to the tall castle before us and I felt my stomach drop; it was massive.

Stiles' annoying voice suddenly started talking again, "So how do you plan on doing all this? Without any weapons."

Rolling my eyes I looked at him, flicking my wrist I felt the sharp claws lash out. Stiles' eyes widened as his mouth formed an O shape.

"Come on." I mutter, "Let's get this over with."

Together we start heading for the tall looming castle before us.

Lydia's POV

"I'm not doing it!" I cried, pulling away from my mother who's eyes narrowed on me. After hearing the news of my 'marriage' I had ran upstairs. The emotions I was feeling were all too much and I needed out, however it seemed my mom invited herself into my room.

"Lydia!" She cried, pinching the bridge of her nose she sighed, "I get it's hard but you don't have much choice."

"I'm not doing it." I finished, crossing my arms I spin around and make my way to the window. Glancing outside I see the people of the village going about their day, and I could only wish I could be them. "You can't make me." I muttered under my breath.

"At least get to know him! For god sake, Lydia, you don't even know the boy." My mother argues and I shake my head.

"No. I'm too young to get married." I whispered, I wanted to do so much more. Having a husband would slow me down, ruling a kingdom will slow me down more.

My mom practically snarled from behind me, "Don't give me that bullshit Martin. I was 15 when I was forced to get married to your father, I had to rule an entire kingdom at 15. You are almost 18, it's time you take the crown."

"I don't want it!" I cried, whipping around to face her, "I've never wanted this responsibility! Ever! Give me a few years more at least, please." I begged and my mom shook her head. Crossing her arms she started shaking her head.

"You're not just a princess Lydia, I get that. But you need to take this crown one day soon. Please just, just talk to him. And if he's horrible than, maybe, I'll reconsider forcing you with him." My mom breaths and I felt my heart rate quicken. She never agrees with me, she never sways on her opinion with me.

Running forward I pulled her into a hug, "Thank you!" I sobbed and she hugged me back in surprise.

"Don't get used to it."

I sat beside Scott as he kept fixing is crown on his head, his eyes darting to me than back to the floor.

I glance over at the Knights that stood tall again the wall, their eyes were stone cold and I felt the uneasiness fill my gut again.

"Can we have a Jester or something entertaining?" I asked, the awkwardness was stretching too long, and I hated siting in silence.

The guards eyes darted up in surprise before he stiffly nodded his head. Quickly the man turned and walked out of the large main doors; frowning I resettled myself on my throne. Kicking the edge of it I glanced at Scott who was sitting in a small seat, I think it was taken from the dinner table but I wasn't sure.

"Well! What is this?" I voice spoke and I nearly jumped out of my skin. Trotting in came a brown haired boy with golden eyes, he had a tipped up nose and moles were placed in several places on his face. He stumbled slightly as he lost his footing;

"Who are you." I demanded and I saw Scott shift uncomfortable in his chair.

The boy raised his eyebrow, "You already forgot?"

"The Jester." Scott finished for him, his eyes sparking with something. "Younger than most."

Stiles did a mocking swing of his hips and fluttered his eyelashes, "Why thank you, your majesty." He sneered and I started tapping my finger at the edge of my throne.

"Well, do what you do. I don't care for your age, I care for your humour." I snapped, I felt bad for lashing out at the young Jester but I wasn't in the mood today for jokes.

"Ah, well. I wasn't really prepared for this, so how bout some juggling." He cheers and I narrowed my eyes.

"Fuck, me." I hissed under my breath, the annoyance reaching to a place of no return.

"Well, at least let my take you to dinner first."

My eyes widened in surprise as my head snapped up to stare at the Jester in disbelief, but the boy only simply wiggled his eyebrows at me.

A grin pulled at my lips.

Dinner was going to be hell. I watched as the McCall family took their seats, everyone began chatting but I couldn't bring myself to sit down. Looking over I noticed the only empty seat was beside Scott, grunting I forced myself to walk over to the boy and sit down. I sent him a half smile before glancing down at my skirt.

My father gleamed at the head of the table, "McCall family! I would like to welcome you all here, please enjoy our meal we offer to you as a welcoming gift." My father nods to me, "And let's hope for the best of our future."

I didn't smile when everyone muttered their thank you's. Instead I watched as the servants came out, one by one; their plates piled high with food. My mouth began watering as I noticed the platter filled with fresh fruit and I welcomed the happy feeling.

Then she walked out.

Her hair was trimmed short and she wore the rags of a lower class. But her eyes, oh her eyes, they were beautiful, a soft brown with a lighter tone intwined with it. They were hard as they scanned the room as if searching for a threat.

I watched in amazement as she placed the platter of food before me, she smelt faintly of roses.

"Thank you." I sputter out and everyone gave me an odd look from what I had said. Royalty thanking the servants was unheard of, but the smile that played on her lips was enough for me. I was surprised at the new feeling that surrounded me, it was something I hadn't felt in a very long, long time.

Curiosity.
