Sherlock

"Oh that was wonderful Sherlock!" My mother clapped her hands in delight as I finished playing 'We Wish You A Merry Christmas' on the violin for the eighth time this evening. Smiling politely, I set my violin down on the table and headed over to Tanya who sat by the fire by herself. Sitting beside her on the floor, I stared into the fire as well.

"I keep trying to convince myself it's over but I...I can't get over what happened to you with Mary and the gun and...and everything else." She looked at me, her eyes glistening with tears. "I don't want you to die."

"Well I'm not dead. I'm perfectly well and alive. My mother is over feeding me with mince pies. Everything is perfect." She giggled and wiped her tears away. "Besides, that was six months ago. You're allowed to let it go." She nodded and faced the fire again.

As the fire cast shadows on her face, a pang of guilt ran through me. I loved her with all my heart. But I hadn't told her. I mean I had but that was six months ago. To her, I was just a friend. I hated the fact that sentiment existed within me but I had no control over it. Sighing, I stood up. "Let's go."

"What? But Sherlock, we only just got here." She looked at me confused.

"Well we have something to do. Christmas formalities can wait." I strode into the other room where John sat with Mary. "John, time to go." John stood up without arguing and set his book down.

"Aren't you going to say something John? It's Christmas. We can't just leave a family dinner like this." Tanya whined at John.

"Tanya, if you know Sherlock by now then you should know that he doesn't take no for an answer. He's stubborn like that." I smirked at him. Unfortunately it was true. "I'll be back later Mary." John kissed Mary's forehead and put his hand on her very pregnant belly before following me out.

Walking through he kitchen, I checked to see that everyone in the house had fallen asleep after I had slipped some sleeping pills into the mulled wine. Next to Mycroft's snoring head lay his laptop. Taking it with me, I left the house.

The three of us walked down the road although I did the walking and they ran behind me to keep up with my strides. "Where are we going?" Tanya asked.

"To pay an old friend a visit."

Tanya, John and I walked into Magnussen's house. It was magnificent, to say at the least. "You forgot to mention that your old friend was Magnussen." Tanya hissed at me with a venomous tone. We walked into what seemed like the living room and saw Magnussen sitting on the sofa. He seemed relaxed and at ease. Putting a fake smile on, I approached him.

"Merry Christmas." I held out the laptop and sat next to him on the plush sofas. John and Tanya stared at me, perplexed.

"Why, how kind of you to bring me this." Magnussen said as he looked to Tanya. I could see him scanning her up and down and oh, how I wanted to scowl at him and rip his limbs off. But I restrained my animalistic nature and continued to smile.

"What the hell Sherlock?" Tanya asked.

"Mr Magnussen here has been incredibly kind as to offer us an opportunity to see something we've wanted to for a while in exchange with some of Mycroft's plans." Once I had said that, I saw her jaw drop.

"Wait. You're sacrificing highly confidential government plans to see something?" John asked. I nodded at him and then looked to Tanya who I could see was disgusted by the scheme I had planned here. But how could I help it? I desperately needed to see where he kept all his information!

"Well, you've done well on your side Mr Holmes. It's time for me to keep up my side of the bargain." He stood up and I beckoned John and Tanya to follow. Magnussen lead us through his breathtaking house until he finally stopped in front of two doors. He put his hand out on one of them but before he could turn the door knob, he turned to face me.

"You underestimate me Mr Holmes. I do have knowledge of the tracking device that you have put on the laptop. Your brother and the government's men will be here to arrest me soon once they find the documents." Sticking my arm out, I put my hand on the door.

"It's a shame that it's a bit too late to do anything Mr Magnussen." Pushing the door open, I prepared myself for shelves filled with documents and files but to my disappointment, there was nothing in there.

It was a plain, white room about the size of a large cupboard and held an empty chair in the middle. Looking to Magnussen, he tapped his temple at me. "You know all about mind palaces, don't you Mr Holmes?"

So that's how he did it. Stored all his information in his head. "Come. I suppose your brother and his men will be here any time now." Leading us out to the dimly lit patio, we stood as the tension settled between us all.

"What did you want from me?" Tanya asked Magnussen quietly.

"I wanted you to work for me. I observed the work you did for Mycroft and I must say that you are an awfully good spy." He paused as his eyes raked over her body. "And having a criminal's daughter as an employee would be good fun." I felt her pleading gaze on me and I knew I had to fix the situation.

"Leave her alone. Please leave her." I begged him.

"Why didn't you just ask me earlier? Of course I'll leave her alone. After telling her mother up in Richmond who her husband really is." He replied, a cruel smirk carved on his face.

"No! Don't tell her. You can't tell her who Moriarty is. She'll die of a heart attack." Tanya beseeched him as he let out a cold laugh.

"Then work for me. The pay is fairly good." Tanya let out a shaky sigh and nodded. I couldn't let this end like this. Tanya didn't deserve to work for a crook like him. From a distance, I could hear the sound of a helicopter and I knew Mycroft was near. Three minutes later, four helicopters surrounded the house and Mycroft spoke through a megaphone inside the helicopter.

"Sherlock Holmes, Tanya Moriarty and John Watson. Stay away from that man." Mycroft still didn't know that Magnussen had no evidence of holding confidential files so he couldn't arrest him.

"Just to be clear," I turned to Magnussen. "All those files were in your head?" I reached into my coat pocket.

"Every single one of them." He replied arrogantly. Nodding, I pulled the gun out of my pocket, aimed it at Magnussen's head and pulled the trigger. His eyes rolled to the back of his head as he fell backwards in a puddle of blood.

"Sherlock..." Tanya whispered as John dragged her to the side. The gun dropped from my hand as I held my hands up in surrender.

"You're free Tanya. No one can hurt you."

So this is unfortunately the second to last chapter of this book so yeah. Hope you liked it though 💕
