Kendall watched as Gigi's lips parted, a small gasp floated between them and then there was nothing. There was no sound, and there was no immediate reaction. All of a sudden Kendall's apartment looked different. It was smaller and darker. The air between them was denser. Kendall stood in silence while Gigi continued to scrutinise her. The blonde's tears weren't hysterical, they were simply full of confusion.
"What?" Gigi croaked, she stood with her hands hanging limply by her side.
Kendall ran her hand through her hair before she pressed her palms to her eyes. She couldn't even look at Gigi.
"You heard me correctly. You're very intuitive you know," Kendall said after a few minutes as she brought her knees up to her chest, tears streamed down her face endlessly.
Gigi didn't think she'd ever seen anyone so broken before, she didn't want to see it again. Tears pricked the back of her eyes, pooling gently at the surface before falling.
"We were together for a few weeks, before she took me, before I knew who she really was. It was all secretive, of course."
It was a relief to finally tell someone, to finally say it out loud even if she did scare Gigi away, it was a relief. She wanted Gigi, all of her. But she wanted them to be built on truth, not secret kisses and stolen moments in offices. There was part of her that couldn't even believe that the words were finally tumbling out of her mouth after all this time.
Gigi reached down and tucked a strand of dark hair behind Kendall's ear, Kendall, she noticed, couldn't look at her. "Me and Selena, we'd been together since high school, work was a massive strain on our relationship, and we agreed to end it mutually. It had come to a natural end for us." There was a brief pause as Kendall breathed in heavily.
"I fell into Binx's arms. We had things in common, she knew how I was feeling about the case, I just needed someone to understand. You don't understand what it was like for me, Gigi." Kendall shrugged before she wiped her eyes on her arm. Gigi let the tears run carelessly down her face.
"I'd only split with Selena for three weeks before she took me, sometimes I think I deserved what happened to me for doing it. Three weeks isn't a long time to get over someone you spent years with. Part of me was and still is disgusted with myself but I just wasn't in love with Selena anymore. There was nothing left." Kendall laughed sadly, more to herself than to Gigi. The blonde's heart quenched in her chest.
Gigi wiped her tears on her sleeve before she knelt in front of Kendall. "So you knew Binx before you broke up with Selena?"
"Yes but not for long, and nothing happened then. I would never cheat on someone. Me and Selena...we discussed, briefly, about trying again but," Kendall had to stop as more tears rolled down her cheeks, she couldn't stop them. Her breath hiccuped in her throat.
"You made your mind up about leaving Selena for good when you met her didn't you? You knew something was going to happen with Binx. There was no going back after meeting her."
"Absolutely," Kendall admitted. Gigi leaned forward and took both of Kendall's hands in her own. Clasping them together tightly. She didn't know who was holding on more, her or Kendall.
Gigi didn't know what to say, there was nothing she could say. Nothing that could take away Kendall's pain and that hurt her more than hearing Kendall talk about another woman. How could anyone get their head around being taken by the person they were involved with?
"You weren't to know, Kendall," Gigi croaked hoarsely.
Kendall shook her head before she stood and walked slowly across the floor, opening the apartment door as her eyes focused back on the blonde. Gigi thought she was going to ask her to leave, she'd understand. She'd understand if Kendall didn't want to be with her but she wanted Kendall to understand that she wanted to be with her anyway.
