When the bell finally rings for lunch I watch everyone rush to get to the cafeteria. Me, on the other hand, was in no rush to sit by myself. I remember Stephanie saying I could sit with her, but she was a bit too perky for me. I walk in and look around, still getting whispers and stares, I walk over and sit at a table in the corner by myself.
I ate my lunch and watched people look at me then go back to whatever they were doing before hand. I thought I was going to be alone all lunch when someone walks up to me.
"Hey, Jennie, You should come sit with me." I look up from my food and see Josh hovering over me.
"Um, OK, If you want me to I guess." I smile a bit, "But I have to ask my friends first." I giggle and look around at the empty seats.
"They said it's ok." I mentally face palm myself realizing how stupid that was. Josh just chuckles and watches me stand up.
"I'm sorry that was stupid." I laugh nervously.
"No, I thought it was kinda cute." He smirks back causing my cheeks to flush. I sit down next to Josh and another boy then look at all of his friends. Attractive, tall, popular looking guys. They all looked at me then at Josh.
"Guys, this is Jennie. Michael's step sister." He says. I don't understand why he introduced me as Michael's step sister, I mean, what importance should that have to them.
"Hi." I smile weakly.
"That's John," Josh points to the tallest boy with dirty blonde hair, "That is James," He motions towards a stocky brunette, "And this is Aidan." Josh says as the tall, muscular, boy with light brown hair sitting next to me stands up and holds out his hand.
"Nice to meet you, Jennie." He smiles and winks at me making my cheeks flush. I watch Aidan sit back down next to me. The rest of lunch is small talk, and I was honestly quite impressed with how nonsexual jerks they are.
When lunch is over they all wave bye to me and rush off together, including Josh. But Aidan stays behind.
"What class do you have now?" He asks walking beside me.
"I have biology." I say looking up at him. Wow he must be at least 6'4. I'm an average 5'5 but he's almost a foot taller than me.
"Hey me to!" His childish reaction makes me laugh, "With Mrs. Rhode?" he asks.
"Yup that's the one!" I laugh.
"Well, since we are going to the same place, can i walk you there?" He smirks and bows to me.
"Mmmm no." I smirk back enjoying the surprised look on his face.
"Uh-" Josh looks at me trying to decide if I'm joking or not.
"But since I have no idea where i'm going yes you can." I try to keep my smirk on and not laugh. He looks at me mouth open not sure of what is really going on.
"Oh my god, I was kidding let's go before we're late." I giggle playfully pushing his arm.
"Ok, we have to go upstairs." He chuckles and takes my hand leading me to class.
As Josh and I are walking and laughing together we pass Michael who was in the middle of talking to some preppy looking girl. The flirty smirk is knocked off his face when he sees us and stops mid sentence to glare at Josh and then me.
"Jennie, I'll walk you to class." Michael snorts grabbing my arm pulling me away from Josh. I raise my eyebrow and open my mouth to say something but Josh beats me to it.
"Actually, she was walking with me, Michael. And we were in the middle of a conversation." He snaps and grab my other arm ripping me back.
"No, I'm going to walk my sister to her class and you're going to leave her the fuck alone." I could almost see Michael's blood boiling under his skin as he grabbed my arm again this time harder.
"And if I don't? Who's going to stop me?" Josh smirks teasingly. Josh wraps his arm around my waist and pulls me closer grabbing my butt. I gasp and slap his hand.
"Excuse you?" I ask pulling myself away from both of them, and with that Michael's last nerve was struck. Next thing I know his fist swings past me straight onto the side of Josh's face. Then it was a full blown fight as they swung as hard as they could at each other.
"Stop it!" I cry and try to pull Josh away from Michael only to have it backfire and Josh's back swing knocks me smack in the eye. I fall back and hold my eye crying. This really does it for Michael and he goes full force on Josh tackling him to the ground throwing punch after punch straight to Josh's face.
Finally teachers run out of their classrooms to tear the two boys apart. It takes 3 males teachers to peel Michael away from Josh. Michael escapes with only a couple cuts and a bloody nose. I look down at Josh who's face is hardly recognizable it was so swollen. Still crying and holding my eye Michael sees me and his eyes fill with regret, anger, and sadness.
A female teacher puts her hand on my arm and walks me to the nurse's office. She gives me an icepack and I lay back on one of the couches in the office. I hear the door open and see Michael being lead in by the resource officer and sat down in a chair. He looks down at his feet not noticing me. He has bandages over his cuts and a tissue up his nose.
"How are we going to explain this one to mom and dad?" I sit up holding the ice pack to my eye. He looks up at me startled and looking slightly relieved to see me.
"Not sure...Are you ok?" He asks and walks over sitting next to me.
"Aside from the major migraine and swollen shut eye I'm pretty good." I giggle taking the ice pack away revealing my eye and that it was actually swollen shut.
"Omg jennie I am so sorry." His eyes widen.
"It's fine." I sigh and rest my head on his shoulder as he wraps his arm around me.
"Jennie and Michael, your parents are here." The office lady says and we both look at each other with panic in our eyes.
Well this is going to be interesting.
