The Fill-In Boyfriend

Chapter 3-" Cory Matthews, My Hero"

"Who the hell do you think you are?" Shawn called as he turned to face the man who decided to challenge him. "I'm her real boyfriend, Cory Matthews." Cory called as Topanga gazed up at him smiling because she knew that he would get Shawn to leave her alone although, she did love Shawn. As Topanga's arm was released from Shawn's tight grip, she scurried away from Shawn and hurriedly went to Cory, instantly wrapping her arms around his waist. She knew that Shawn was her real boyfriend but, she knew even more that she couldn't handle his maltreatment tonight. "I'm so happy you're here love bug." She played as Cory wrapped his arms back around her and Shawn angrily walked out of the auditorium. "I'll be back." Shawn yelled as Topanga placed a gentle kiss against Cory's cheek. Cory smiled and wrapped his arms around Topanga. "I'm sorry I told you I wasn't gonna be able to make it. I never thought you'd get a fill-in for me." He chuckled. "I went to surprise you at your house, but your mother said you had already left, it seems to me I got here just in time." He smiled placing a gentle kiss against her nose, trying to make their relationship seem real, even though it was just a hoax.
Topanga half-smiled and looked down at her feet. She was disappointed with herself at how she seemed to abandon Shawn. She had initially invited Cory with her to prom, but one day Shawn asked if she could go and out of excitement she said yes, forgetting that she had already invited Cory. Cory and Topanga went to separate schools and he had invited Topanga to his prom, but she blew him off for Shawn. She didn't want to withdraw the invitation due to the fact that she was the reason he missed his own prom, so she never told him about Shawn going. She didn't have the heart to do it, he had already got a tux and corsages and was just so excited about the night.
"I think it's about time we get out of here, lets go get burgers or something. This must have been traumatizing for you." Cory cooed as he wrapped his hand into Topanga's holding it as she held his hand back and the two made their way out of the auditorium and out to Cory's car.
