CHAPTER 5

* ~ *~ * ~ *

~Greg's P.O.V~

"Fuck!" I punched a tree breaking it apart. I sense my Beta Mike, maintaining a safe distance from me. My third was handling the pack while I tried to sort out my shit. Then I remembered it again, the moment she felt pain when I broke her wrist - I punch another tree - I remembered when our eyes connected and my wolf recognized our mate - I destroyed another tree - and I remembered the moment where I realized - I obliterated another tree - that she is human.

By the time I felt my anger leaving my system, I was breathing quite heavily.

"Alpha," Mike called out to me.

"What is it?" The feeling of irritation was obvious from my intonation.

"The former Luna, she is calling for you." He informed me.

I sigh. She probably wanted to know what got into me during the hunt when I suddenly called it off. "Tell her I'll be there in a minute. You can go." I said to Mike without facing him. A few seconds later, I felt his presence leave me.

Finally. Alone.

I looked up to the moon, mesmerized by its full glory. "Moon goddess," I said softly. "Why are you doing this to me?" I waited. I don't know why I raise my hope for a reply from the goddess herself but as expected, I was only greeted with the silent night breeze.

I clutched my hands tightly until my knuckles turned white. A human as a mate? This is unheard of. Never in the histories of werewolves, a wolf had a human as a mate and I will not become the first. Which means that no one can know that I have found my mate.

I can reject her privately without anyone knowing but without a mate, the Crimson Blood pack lineage will end with me. Apparently our kind is unable to bear children if it's not with our mate. This makes the situation more complicated. There has to be a way out of this. No matter. I'll find it eventually.

I made my way to the packs house and my mother the former Luna along with my father the former Alpha was impatiently waiting for me in the living room. The moment she saw me, she started attacking me with numerous questions.

"Greg! What happen out there? Why did you call off the hunt? Do you know how irresponsible you are?" She berated continuously leaving me no room to explain myself. I knew how important the hunt was for me and also for my parents. It was my first official job as an Alpha to lead the pack and show them that I am worthy of the title and that I am capable of leading them. It wasn't entirely my fault. It would have gone smoothly if it wasn't for that human.

"Calm down honey. I'm sure he has a reason for his action." My father intervenes and tried to calm my mother down. He pulled her into his arms to quieten her down and gave me look demanding an explanation from me.

I sigh. "There was a human in the middle of the woods so I had to call it off. Wouldn't want her to get suspicious and find out about us."

"A girl? How did she end up there?" My mother exclaimed.

"Who knows." I shrugged her question of, showing no interested at all.

"Hmm..." My father was looking thoughtful for a moment then he said "there was a new guy in the company today. If I'm not mistaken he's staying at that abandoned house not far from here. She's probably from there."

"Okay. Then I'll tell the pack to be careful from now on." I responded. "Why don't you two rest up early tonight."

We exchange goodnight's then they left the packs house to their own house. The moment they left, Mike came out of nowhere and started tackling me. In a matter of minutes, I have easily pinned him down forcing him to surrender.

"Damn. Even the element of surprise doesn't work on you." Mike complained. I helped him up and gave him a smirk. "You're 100 years too early to defeat me, kid"

"You cocky bastard," Mike grinned trying to ruin my hair. "Hey! Don't bring my mother into this." I said while trying to hold him off. We messed around a little bit longer before Mike said something that made me almost killed him.

"Hey, you know that girl in the wood? She was that bitch I told you about. The one who murdered her..." he didn't get to finish his sentence before I punched him so hard in the face, throwing him across the room. Without realizing it, I was already on top of him holding him by the collar, bringing his face close to mine. My body was shaking and I was gritting my teeth. It took everything in me not to kill him at that moment. Instead, I gave him a warning. "Talk about her like that again, then you won't need to worry about breathing anymore."

He just stared at me stun and speechless. I know my punches could destroy trees but we, werewolves are much tougher than normal humans. The most he'll get is just a broken nose or jaw. Even that will only last for a few days before he's good as new again. I released his collar and left him there probably confused about the whole thing.

When I reached my room I was still seething with anger. He fucking dares bad mouthed my mate in front of me that stupid, narcissistic...wait. It slowly dawns on me that I had protected that human and even acknowledging that she is my mate.

No.

She can't be my mate. My mate has to be a wolf to not disgrace this pack. It hurts even thinking bout rejecting her when I longed for her touch and scent. "AARRGGHH!" I purposely rammed my head on the door to bring some sense back into me. Once I've calmed down, I now realized that it's tougher that it seems to pretend she isn't my mate.

"What am I going to do?
