Sango
What? Koga wanted to take Ami as his bride? That was insane! There was no way that Kagome or Inuyasha would allow it.
“What?!” Inuyasha shouted. He was definitely beyond livid. “There's no way in hell you're going to marry our daughter. I won't let you near her.” He drew the Tensaiga and lunged at Koga. He was just as fast as ever though, and Koga jumped out of the way before the sword even touched the ground.
Koga landed in Ami's tree, and he actually looked upset.
“Now just hold on Inuyasha and let me tell you why. I don't just want to marry her. I need to marry her.” He was pleading with Inuyasha, and it looked like Inuyasha was going to swing his sword again, until.......
“Sit boy.” Kagome said rather calmly. Inuyasha hit the ground, and Kagome walked up to the base of the tree. Koga hopped down from the branch he was on. “What do you mean you need to marry Ami?” Koga sighed and rubbed a hand over his face. For the first time, he actually looked older, and very stressed. “I thought you were married to Ayame.”
“Can we go somewhere else to talk?” Koga asked, and then turned and walked up the hill to Kagome and Inuyasha's house. After a moment, a stunned Kagome and a furious Inuyasha walked up after him.
“Sango,” Miroku said to me gently. I turned to him, and he looked very sad. I knew why. “What if Kagome and Inuyasha decide to give Ami to Koga? What will we do?” Miroku loved Ami like she was one of our daughters. He was more fatherly than Inuyasha was most of the time.
“I highly doubt that they'd give her away like that Miroku. They'd probably give her the option, but they would never force her to marry. You know how protective Inuyasha is of her.”
“That's right.” Shippo chirped. “He'd fight even more fiercely for his daughter than for Kagome I'd bet.” I nodded my head at Shippo in agreement, then I hugged my husband and then gave him a kiss before heading up the hill to join my friends.
Kagome
“Alright wolf, start explaining.” Inuyasha growled at Koga. Figures, even after more than 17 years of no contact, they still were bitter rivals. “What the hell do you want with our daughter?”
“I already told you. I want and need to marry her.” Koga snapped back. Then he looked to me and told his tale. “A few months ago, this big virus swept through the mountains, and it killed many of our numbers. Ayame happened to be one of the hundreds of wolves that were killed. There was nothing anyone could do to stop the virus from killing everyone, so whoever caught it died. Now, my problem is that I need a new wife to help me lead the tribes. Ayame and I never had any children, otherwise it would just go to them.”
“Yeah yeah, very sad and touching story.” Inuyasha rolled his eyes at Koga, just as Sango and Miroku and Shippo slipped through the door. I was about to yell at him when he continued. “But why do you have to marry my daughter? Why can't you just steal some other demon?” When he put it like that, I couldn't really argue.
“Because, dog breath, I don't know of any other beautiful and available demons or part demons that spark any interest in me.” Koga was looking out the door, off to where Ami was on the opposite hillside. I hated to admit it, but I actually had thought about maybe introducing Ami to Koga for just this reason. I thought that maybe they would make a cute couple. Maybe not marriage, but maybe they could at least date? Koga sighed and then looked Inuyasha in the eye. “If it really bothers you that much, then why not let her decide? She's a woman, and can make her own decisions. Hell, I'll even court her here where you can watch us if you're really that worried.” Geez, Koga must really want to marry Ami if he would go to such lengths.
Inuyasha grumbled about it for a minute. Then he sighed. “It pains me to admit it, but Ami is actually a woman now. I don't want to force her into anything, so I'll leave it up to her. I'm sure Kagome feels the same way.” Inuyasha looked up at me for reassurance. I nodded and looked at Koga, who was looking between the two of us longingly. I wondered to myself how badly he wanted to be happy, to have a marriage based off of love, not gain. I smiled at him.
“It's completely Ami's decision, but if she chooses to go with you, then you have our blessing.” I bowed my head slightly towards the young wolf demon.
“What?” I stiffened at the sound of my daughter's shocked voice. Everyone in the room turned to see Ami standing in the doorway, a hurt expression on her face and disbelief in her eyes. “You're giving me away? What?” Ami looked near tears, and that was huge. She was like her father in that sense. She looked at it as only weaklings cried.
“Ami, no it's not what you think.” Inuyasha started, but Ami never let him finish.
“I thought you said you never wanted me to leave. Isn't that the whole reason why I've been stuck in this god forsaken village my whole life? You've trapped me in here, but let me do anything I want. Now you're just forcing my hand?” Before anyone could speak, Ami turned around and ran. We all knew where she was going, but we all wanted her to calm down.
“Kid, wait!” Koga yelled after Ami. Then he took off after Ami, apparently following her scent. This wasn't good. This wasn't good at all. Ami had a short temper like her father, but unlike her father, she could hold a grudge for months on end. She was still mad at all of us for when we laughed at her on her birthday....... three years ago.
“Ami.” I whispered. I really hoped Koga could explain all of this to her, otherwise, who knew if Ami would ever forgive us?
