Ten Little Monkeys

Ten little monkeys jumping on a bed
One fell off and bumped his head.

"This is too dangerous", one monkey said
"Let's play safe before we wind up dead."
Ten little monkeys went out to dine
One choked on a bone and then there were nine.

Nine little monkeys gone fishing with bait
A shark swallowed one and then there were eight.

Eight little monkeys on holiday in Devon
One fell off a cliff and then there were seven.

Seven little monkeys were chopping up sticks
One chopped too much and then there were six.

Six little monkeys trying to stay alive
One got killed and then there were five.

Five little monkeys swinging on a door
One broke his neck and then there were four.

Four little monkeys had to take a pee
One flushed the toilet and then there were three.

Three little monkeys on a trip to the zoo
A lion got loose and then there were two.

Two Little monkeys laying in the sun
One caught fire and then there was one.

One little monkey playing with a gun
He pulled the trigger and then there were none.

Little Orphan Annie

Little Orphan Annie came to our house to stay,
And wash the cups and saucers up, and brush the crumbs away,
And shoo the chickens off the porch, and dust the hearth, and sweep,
And make the fire, and bake the bread, and earn her board and keep;
And all us other children, when the supper things are done,
We sit around the kitchen fire and have the best of fun
Listening to the scary tales that Annie tells about,
And the Goblins will get you, if you don't watch out.

Once there was a little boy who wouldn't say his prayers
And when he went to bed at night, all the way upstairs,
His Mommy heard him holler, and his daddy heard him bawl,
And when they turned the covers down, he wasn't there at all!
And they searched for him in the attic, and the cubby-hole, and press,
And they searched up the chimney, and everywhere, I guess;
But all they ever found was his pants and round about
And the Goblins will get you, if you don't watch out.

Once there was a little girl who liked to laugh and grin,
And make fun of everyone, her family and kin
Whenever there was company, and guests were sitting there,
She mocked them and she shocked them, and said she didn't care!
Suddenly she kicked her heels, and turned to run and hide,
There were two great big Black Things standing by her side,
They snatched her through the ceiling before she knew they were about!
And the Goblins will get you, if you don't watch out.

And Little Orphan Annie says, when the blaze is blue,
And the lamp-wick sputters, and the wind goes woo-oo!
And you hear the crickets quit, and the moon is gray,
And the lightning bugs in dew are all squenched away
Listen to your parents and your teachers fond and dear,
And churish those who love you, and dry the orphan's tear,
And help the poor and needy ones that cluster all about,
Or the Goblins will get you, so you better watch out.

My Name is Sarah

My name is Sarah, I am but three.
My eyes are swollen, I cannot see.
I must be stupid, I must be bad.
What else could have made my daddy so mad?

I wish I were better, I wish I weren't ugly,
Then maybe my mommy would still want to hug me.
I cant speak a word, I can do nothing wrong,
Or else I'll be locked up all day long.

When I wake up, I find I'm alone
The house is dark. My folks aren't home.
When my Mommy gets back, I'll try to be nice,
So maybe I won't get a whipping tonight.

Don't make a sound, I just heard a car
My daddy is back and drunk from the bar.
I hear him curse as my name he calls.
I press myself against the wall.

I try to hide from his evil eyes.
I'm so afraid I start to cry.
He finds me weeping. He shouts ugly words,
He says it's my fault that he suffers at work.

He slaps me and hits me and yells at me more,
I finally get free and I run for the door.
He's already locked it and I start to bawl,
He grabs me and throws me up against the wall.

I fall to the floor with my bones nearly broken,
And my daddy continues with more bad words spoken.
"I'm sorry!", I scream but it's now much too late
His face has been twisted into unimaginable hate.

The hurt and the pain again and again
Oh please God, have mercy! Please let it end!
And he finally stops and heads for the door,
I lay there motionless, sprawled on the floor.

My name is Sarah, I am but three.
Tonight my daddy murdered me.
