The scratching of pen against paper and the faint hum of "Helena" by My Chemical Romance coming from one fallen ear-bud were the only sounds inside the room. It was yet another quiet night in my house. I finished up the rest of my homework and crammed my over-sized books into my book bag with a huff.
Taking a breath, my eyes swept across my room. I had a room most girls my age would kill for. First things first, my room itself was huge. I mean, I did have the master bedroom, but all of the rooms in the Fowler household were big. (I'd call it a mansion, but apparently it was a few square feet short to be official.)
Now before you go on thinking that I threw some sort of tantrum and kicked my parents out of their own room, I never wanted this room. For the first 13 years of my life, my safe haven was in the room across. It's the smallest bedroom in the house but still rivals a master bedroom of any average home. It was the only place in the house I liked because it didn't make me feel so small...or lonely.
Unfortunately, four years ago my parents decided to give me their room, the "best" room. Busy, busy Dr. Clarisse and Attorney John Fowler barely spend any time at home and thought their only daughter Seraphina would appreciate the room more than they would, especially since she's starting to become a "grown woman". Quite honestly, I found that a load of bull. It was really one way to make up for never being around. I hated this room. It's too big for this 17 year old. Just like this house.
Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely grateful for everything that I've got, but I would trade everything for parents who came home in time for dinner or made me breakfast in the morning, parents who I can actually have a conversation with without interruption of work.
Enough self-pity Sera, you don't need any more of that.
Sighing, I ran a hand through my disheveled black hair and looked at the clock by my bed. It was a little over 12. Yeah, my school gives out a lot of homework, especially AP and Honors classes. Suddenly my stomach let out an inhumane growl and I realized I hadn't eaten anything all day.
My brain started rationalizing about why I should just go to sleep and forget about my hunger.
Sera, you're tired. You've been up since 6 o'clock this morning...or is it yesterday morning now? Anyways, just stay here. You ate three full meals the day before so it makes up for today. You can get something in the morning.
My stomach let out another animalistic growl, but my brain was on a roll tonight.
Ignore it. When you go to sleep, it won't bother you anymore.
I glanced at the full body mirror across the room, then at the pictures of a much younger....and fatter Seraphina.
You worked so hard to get to where you are now and you're still fat. You may be fine with it, but if you hadn't noticed, you're still fat to Donna, the cheerleaders, and the football team. Imagine how great you'll look without the pounds you could've gained from today.
I nodded and welcomed the grumbling of my stomach in protest, as if it knew what my brain had decided. I pinched at my hips and there was too much flesh to hold on to. You definitely need to stop eating again, Sera. This was one of the few perks with parents who were barely home; I could skip a few meals and no one would care.
A ghost of a smile set itself on my lips, and I lowered my head onto my pillow. The flash of lightning was the last thing I saw before the sound of thunder and rain lulled me to sleep.

"...then we just,
then we just,
then we just,
then we just get up and GO!
Ladies and gentlemen,
TRUTH is now acceptable......"
My eyes flew open to the sound of Gerard's angelic and energetic voice. What? I dig My Chemical Romance, sue me. Throwing my soft, thick black comforter off of me, I reluctantly slipped out of my warm and comfy bed. With a smile, I turned up the volume on my phone and pranced my way around my room, singing and air-guitaring Frank's and Ray's parts.
I contemplated on whether I had time to actually play along but decided against it when I saw my face in the mirror. Suffice to say, Sam and Dean would've killed me, mistaking me for some hideous monster. Then I got caught up daydreaming about Sam and Dean being anywhere near. Laughing at myself (and the thought of me fainting before I could even finish saying "Winchester"), I dragged my feet to my connecting bathroom to take a shower and brush my teeth.
Walking out of the steam filled shower, I refused to look at my hideous reflection and headed into my walk-in closet to find something to wear. A pair of black skinnies,a Misfits t-shirt, and a pair of Converses called out to me and I shook my head after I put them on. I really needed to stop reading so many MCR fanfictions (like that would happen). By now, my phone was playing "The Kids From Yesterday" and I almost broke into tears as I dried and slightly ironed my hair.
One important detail about myself is that I dye my hair blue. It wasn't that I hated my natural hair color, in fact I loved it. But when I dyed my hair blue, people didn't stop me just to have me thank my parents for some "great" deed they'd done again. They either didn't realize I was a Fowler (we're known for our strawberry blonde hair) or they just felt too intimidated to talk to me.
Finishing myself off with a healthy amount of sprays of my favorite perfume, I grabbed my bag and snatched my phone off of my dock, heading for the door. I heard my stomach growl and stopped in front of my mirror. I looked like I gained weight.
Just skip breakfast. It's not like you've got P.E. today and you won't need to use too much energy .
Satisfied with the discussion inside my head, I ran down my stairs, the sound of my Converses hitting the wood floor and echoing through the entire house. After I walked out and locked the front door, I looked towards our driveway to find neither my mom's or my dad's car. They probably fell asleep in their offices again. I frowned and stepped off of the porch, starting my 15 minute walk to hell. Or as the locals call it, Lakewood High School.
