Stephanie ignored the creepy feeling Reese had given her. Stephanie decided to see if the kids wanted to play a game, she held the monitor closely as she asked the kids what they wanted to do.
"Can we play hide and seek?" Sasha asks.
"Yes we can. We have to stay inside the house though. Your little brother is sleeping." Stephanie said.
The two kids nodded their heads. "You can count." Reese said to Stephanie. Stephanie nodded her head and the small group headed into the living room. "You can count here." Sasha said pointing at the couch. "Make sure you close your eyes." Reese said. The way he spoke the words made the hairs on Stephanie's arms rise slightly. Rubbing her arms slightly from the chill she was feeling. Stephanie nodded her head. "I will count to ten. Then come look for you." The kids nodded. "Ready. Set. Go." She closed her eyes and heard the kids run off, then she began to count. "One Mississippi. Two Mississippi. ....." When she reached ten she opened her eyes. "READY OR NOT HEAR I COME!" She yelled.
Stephanie searched the whole main floor and didn't find either of the kids. Deciding to head upstairs she called out. "I GUESS THEY AREN'T DOWNSTAIRS!" Just then she heard faintly. "Hush little baby don't say a word. Momma's going to buy you a mocking bird. ... Shh She is coming." Stephanie stopped halfway up the stairs and looked around. She didn't see anyone. Then she remembered the baby monitor she had hooked to her belt buckle. She quickly ran up the rest of the stairs, heading straight to Leland's room. She had reached the door and was about to open it when the door to the master bedroom flew open with a bang. Stephanie jumped at the sound and gasped. On the baby monitor she clearly heard laughing. Opening the door Stephanie saw no one in the room. She stepped inside quietly and looked around. Still no one. Stepping up to the crib Stephanie looked down at the sleeping boy.
Stephanie looked around the room once again before quietly leaving. She closed the door then headed to the master bedroom. Surely one of the kids were hiding in there. Looking around the room she saw nothing. So she took a breath and headed inside for a closer inspection. Under the bed? Nope. In the closet? Nothing. There was no obvious reason for the door to open on it's own. Shrugging her shoulders she stepped out of the room closing the door behind her.
She walked towards Sasha and Reese's rooms. The kids had to be in one or both of them. Stephanie stood outside of Reese's room and placed her ear to the door. She heard nothing so she carefully opened the door. The room was neat and tidy and showed no signs of anyone being inside. She walked in and began searching. She looked under the bed. Nothing. She then looked in the closet. "BOO!!" Reese yelled as she opened the door. She screamed then burst out laughing. "Let's go find your sister." Stephanie said as she helped the boy out of the closet. He grinned and nodded his head. She finished searching his room then decided to search Sasha's room. The pair left the searched bedroom and headed across the hall.
Once again Stephanie placed her ear against the door. "She is going to find us if you don't be quiet." Stephanie heard. "Yes she staying the night." "No don't bug her." Wondering who Sasha is talking to she opens the door to see Sasha sitting cross legged on the bed by her self. "Found you Sasha." She says to the little girl as she looks around curiously. Reese excitedly asks "want to play again?"
Loosing her train of thought, Stephanie agrees to play again. "One more time before bed." She says.
