Chapter One
This passion of mine all started with the help of a microphone, a karaoke machine and a bloodline of musically inclined family members. Singing and playing the piano were two of the abilities that I possess in which I find as blessings and things that I would never take for granted. At such a young age, I knew what I wanted and I knew what I was capable of; that was to embrace the love for creating music and for music in general.
My two inspirations were my parents; my mother was the one who served as my teacher when it came to singing. One day at a birthday party, she encouraged me to hit a few notes with the use of a karaoke machine that was rented at a neighbor's home. I was at the age of four when that happened as I sang my first song which was a Whitney Houston piece. Another inspiration was my father whom had a talent of playing the piano. He used to belong in a band back in his teenage years and that was how he met my mom who was one of their supporters back then. It was adorable.
It was one summer morning at the age of six, when I spotted my dad who was sat in front of the instrument as he pressed the keys with such spirit and enthusiasm. The melodies he produced beneath his fingertips were as beautiful as you can ever imagine. It took me a while to find out that I, too, wanted to create amazing music as he did, so with that one moment, I decided to ask him to teach me after taking small steps towards him. He gladly agreed without any hesitation, knowing that his daughter was interested in continuing his talent.
Now, at the age of twenty-two, I still dream of being successful in the music industry, although the only difference is that one of my inspirations had sadly passed away, that happened to be my dad. During the year 2010, we used to own a local music school which held students that my parents loved, just as much as they loved passing on what they knew unto them. I was included in their lessons but for some reason, they preferred teaching me at home.
The school had been there for a couple of years until that dreaded night happened, the night when a part of my world was taken away.
As a kid, I was told before by my mom that my dad died in a car accident which was far from what actually happened. I then came to that point in life when I gradually matured, and that was when my mother finally told me the horrible and life-changing truth; he died saving a little girl who was about to be raped on her way home. She was only 9 years old, just about my age when that happened, and she was a student in their school. If my memory serves me right, her name was Macy.
Going into detail, it was said that my father spotted the girl screaming in an alley along with a man that was spotted harassing the poor soul for who knew how long. When my father entered the scene, he yelled at the suspect for the crime and approached him with might. It probably hurt him since he cared for his students so much, so he was willing to protect them at all costs just as he would protect me if I were to be involved in a horrendous situation like that.
In the end, he was able to save the girl by telling her to run to her home and ask her parents to call the police; it was said that she lived just a block away from the building, so it was guaranteed that she was led to safety. But during the action as he distracted the man to protect her, he failed to protect himself when he received multiple stab wounds in the stomach area which led to blood loss. The culprit escaped and was never identified. My father was then found in the same alley probably a while later by a group of students passing by and brought him to the hospital to no avail.
And so, we lost him.
Not only did I lose a mentor, but I lost a great father as well.
After the incident, my mother then decided to close down the music school when she insisted that no one else can continue the business as blissful and as lively again. This led to losing their beloved students.
