Cherry Fields Golf Club

We drove up to a gate with a huge wall that seemed to go for miles in both directions. The gate looked old, but the wall looked like it was recently built. The gate was beautiful. It was white and massive with poles that looked like metal vines. The wall was boring. just plain concrete that was about ten feet tall, the size of the gate. The man drove up and typed in a four digit code that made the gate open. We drove through a winding road, mansions the size of apartments on both sides. A row of trees separated the two sides of the road. This place seemed off though, like that wall. Tall barbed wire fences that were most likely electric surrounded each individual house.

"Were are we?" I asked.

"Cherry Fields Golf Club." Replied the driver, as if everyone should know that.

We drove to the largest mansion. It looked six stories high and could fit about three football fields in it. This home had three wired fences around it. The man parked the Tahoe by the fence. A Chevy seemed so out of place in this type of neighborhood. Cynthia parked nearby and Anthony got out, the beach bag of food in his arms and went up to hug me.

The twins lead us inside the house, unlocking each fence at a time. We walked through the large wood framed doors. Inside, there was a room that opened up into a larger room that held three couches, a large flatscreen TV, a bar, and an entire wall of bookshelves. Every piece of furniture was white leather or black. The floor was purple and the walls were white as well.

"You two, wait here. C and I have a meeting with King." Cynthia told us, ushering us to a seat facing the white flatscreen that had a movie case underneath. I was too shy to pick a movie off the shelf. Nobody really watches movies from DVDs anymore. Now everyone watches it on their tablets. I haven't seen a movie at all in about seven years. I haven't seen a book since I was in first grade.

"So what all did that Cynthia tell you?" I asked my brother.

"Nothing, other than we were going to CFGC and that she found her long lost brother who had amnesia. Nobody knew his name, but they found out that they were, in fact, twins by naming their parents and all. It was kinda like that fifty year old movie The Parent Trap." He said.

"So, when do you think they'll be back? If it's a couple hours, we might as well crack open a DVD or two." I smiled.

We sat there fiddling with the old TV trying to get it to work, eventually, we figured out how to get the DVD in the player and how to press play.

"Hey Alex, this one doesn't even have the 3D built in!" My brother said.

"This is one old TV! I remember grandpa telling me that before, they weren't even flat! They used to have giant boxes on the ends and the remote was separate." I smirked.

After watching two comedies and an old horror movie that was so stupid I would consider it a comedy, Cynthia and her twin finally came back into the room.

"So we spoke to the king, and he said that if you're already here, you might as well stay-"

"Wait! We have to go to Harris Creek!" Anthony cut her off.

"Well, what's the difference? This place seems to have more security anyways..." I said.

"Andrea lived in Harris Creek. So did Aunt Marley."

"Oh, yeah. I'm sorry. Maybe it's for the better, she might not even be at home. For all we know she could have escaped!" I said trying to be optimistic.

Andrea was Anthony's girlfriend. They dated at least a year and a half. When he graduated, they broke up, because she's a year younger. They were a cute couple and I know Anthony was truly heartbroken. I'm sure she was too, considering she seemed to have completely disappeared for a couple of weeks after it ended.

"Can we continue?" The unnamed brother piped up, disrupting our thoughts.

"You can stay, we have two more open bedrooms, but you must be a maid. You cannot lounge around all day like a freeloader. You also cannot see the King. He's very busy and does not need to be bothered by a commoner." He spoke to me. "Anthony is it? You will be taken as an apprentice for the next few weeks by me and Cynthia. You will collect food and supplies. Also, both of you won't get as much food, considering it's two extra mouths."

"Alex, come with me to try on some maid uniforms. Anthony, go with C to get some weaponry." Cynthia piped up.

She lead me to a room with many mirrors. In there was a whole rack of uniforms for maids, butlers, and cooks. I fit into a cliche costume, but it was definitely not seductive. She showed me how I should braid my waist length hair down my back, and how to use each cleaning utensil and my daily, weekly, and monthly schedules.

"How do you know all of this?" I asked.

"I used to be a maid before I got promoted to the job I wanted, working with my brother."

"How did you get here?"

"Well I used to work for the FBI. I was out on the streets when one of the workers found me and took me in. Said they needed help and since fighting and tracking are my expertise, you know.... My brother came here the same way if you were wondering. We met each other about three months ago, and realized then that we were siblings." She said, looking sad.

She lead me to the servants quarters on the second floor, east side of the castle-like mansion. I unpacked my three pairs of clothes, toothbrush and other hygienic products, and laid my parent's tied t-shirts on the white bed. Everything was either white or black wood. It was actually pretty cool looking. Even the tile was checkered. The hardwood floors were the only thing brown. Even the door frames were sliding white doors. I didn't eat dinner. I just changed out of my clothes and into my underwear and bra. I lie in bed trying to sleep, but just couldn't get over the fact that our "little detour" lead me to become a maid for some dude everyone seemed to know as "The King." I bet he was some ten year old bratty kid.
