But then I got a surprise. A surprise that changed everything.
As the sun shined through the cracks in the window, I woke up to my alarm clock. I guess I'm ready for another day at work. I'm 19 and I already know what I want to do with my life. I'm a photography at a very small institute here in California. Sydney and I are going to work there until we find a bigger and better company to work at.
I reluctantly get out of bed and take a look at myself in the mirror. I look awful and try to make myself look a tad more presentable. I brush my hair, put on my cute flower printed, loose dress. Nothing fancy. And put on some simple makeup. I go into the messy kitchen and fix myself a bowl of cereal. When I have finished getting ready I drive to the small store on the corner of a busy road.
I unlocked to door of the shop and set up. I go to the back and set out all of my tools. Sydney and I work in the back in our own work spaces. I set up my photos I took yesterday and wait patiently for my boss to arrive. She is rude, conceited and very unorganised. I could get to work an hour late and I would have to wait for her to get here! But I put up with her because she is my gateway to an awesome new job in London! Me and Syd are applying for a 2 person job, and we couldn't be more desperate to leave California. It's a beautiful place, but this job sucks. Sydney arrives minutes after me. She walks through the door and I hear the little bell above the frame ringing. I get up and greet her, but she is looking down at her phone in persistence to beat her level on Crossy Road. She had never really been involved in apps, until Phil mentioned Crossy Road in a video and she has been obsessed ever since. I guide her to the back, her head still down and very much involved in her game.
"UGH" she says while chucking her phone on her desk.
"Hey Sydney?"
"Yeah?" She says while sitting down and taking out her drafts on a new project.
I pick up my phone and go onto the 7 second challenge app.
"SING THE ALPHABET SONG LIKE A DEATH METAL GUY!"
Sydney jumps up, knocking her papers off of her desk.
She sings the alphabet while screaming in a deep voice. It's pretty awful :) And she burst out laughing when she got to Q
"Time's up!" I giggle, "YOU FAILED!"
We laugh and on her way back to her chair, Sydney trips and knocks her tools off of the table. Her work area looks like a mess and she is rolling on the floor chuckling.
"Ahem." We hear a stern voice say.
I spin around to see my very unimpressed boss. Jenna (Our boss) is dressed in a dull grey dress with her brown hair in a perfect high bun. No hairs are out of place. Her makeup is all boring and simple. She glares at us and Sydney quickly gathers all of the thing on floor and I scramble to help her.
"I'm sure this huge job wouldn't want their new employees to be like this around their office," she says, still staring me in the eyes.
"Look, we are really sorry but- wait... Did you say new employees?" I say in awe.
I look over at Sydney and her eyes lit up.
"WE GOT THE JOB?" I yell.
Jenna says, "Yes. Congratulations." She says with a tiny smile. It's the first time anyone has seen her smile.
"THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!" Sydney and I say while basically jumping onto Jenna.
Then it hit me - WE ARE MOVING TO LONDON!
And then I think- London...London 😑 hmmm what do I think about London- DAN AND PHIL LIVE THERE OH MY GOD!
