Novella "Nova" Maeko Cauldwell

Though born in Oxford, England, I moved to Nagoya, Japan when I was an infant, for my safety. While practicing magic from ages six to eleven with my father, I attended the wizarding school of Mahoutokoro, an ancient jade palace known for its academic prowess. After my father moved back to America, my mother, Ayano Tanaka-Parkinson, took care of me herself.

Every day, my mother would tell me how important it was for me to never talk to anyone about my father. She warned me that if anyone found out about his true identity, we would all be taken prisoner, no matter our lack of wrongdoings.

"Nova," she would say quietly in her heavily accented English, as if she were afraid that Japan's Ministry of Magic would hear. "Your father is a brave man, and our leader is fighting for our right to magic and freedom from unjust laws. When it comes to magic, there is no "good" or "bad". There is only following our hearts, but the world doesn't understand that. Your father is helping to make the change we need."

I would dutifully nod and promise to never mention my father's name in the presence of anyone but my own parents.

My gentle, loving father was Rabastan Lestrange, and his blood coursed through my veins.

I was bound to serve The Dark Lord.
