Coming in as quietly as possible, Sophia turned and jumped.
Her mom was sitting on the stairs waiting for her!
Where the hell have you been?! She asked as she stood and came towards her. At the library studying. Sophia said softly.
Ha! The harsh sound didn't match her mothers "perfect" exterior. You'll need alot if extra study time if your going to get As! It's a good thing you're so ugly, you won't have to worry about a boy flirting with you. When I was your age I had a string. I was the prettiest, most sought after girl in my grade. What happened with you....
The words trailed away as her mom, distracted, went down the hall towards the kitchen. With tears in her eyes Sophia ran up the stairs to the room she shared with her younger sister. Dropping her bag on her bed, she grabbed her bathroom caddy and locked the door behind her.
She leaned on the countertop and stared at her reflection. Deep brown eyes, prettyish dark hair with the pretty red highlights, a huge nose, acne and bruises hidden with makeup. Odd chin, lips on the thin side...
No wonder her mom said stuff like that. Double checking the lock, she slid of her jeans. Wincing, she looked at the reddened words she carved just last night.
Worthless. Loser. Tracing them with her fingers as the tears finally overflowed. Alone she sobbed until she heard the angry voice screaming about chores. Quickly she dressed and ran a brush across the tracks the tears had made.
Moving fast she hurried to dishes, laundry, vacuuming and taking care of the 2 and 4 year olds. And whatever anyone else had forgotten.
Being the oldest of six kids sucked.
