"Oh, it's okay, darling, Mummy's here. Shhhhhh....."
Lily Potter was trying, with very little success, to calm her son, who was in the middle of a screaming fit.
He was usually like this. His unruly, fiery red hair matched his personality perfectly. He knew what he wanted when he wanted it, and so did everyone else.
"Shhh, Marcus, it's okay. Do you want your lion?" James Potter asked his absolutely adorable firstborn son. Marcus got a bit quieter after this attempt.
James walked over to Marcus's crib, searching for something. He found it, underneath a mountain of toys, and proceeded to give it to his little angel.
The golden lion with a red mane grabbed the child's full attention. He smiled, reached out with his oh-so-tiny hands, and took the little toy from his daddy.
Lily Potter gently set him down in his crib, where he continued to play with the tiny symbol of Gryffindor.
"He's so sweet, isn't he?" Lily asked her wonderful husband.
"Yeah, he sure-" James started to say, but was distracted by a little tap on his ankle. Confused, he turned around to have his eyes met with eyes that appeared to look into the very depths of his soul. He stumbled back, a bit spooked. He then realized that it was just Harry.
"Stufpy!" Harry Potter squealed, pointing excitedly towards the book he was reading: Simple Spells for Babies. He was currently looking at page 3, which included a bright red spell that knocked out your opponent.
But his parents took no notice to the fact that he knew what the spell even was, let alone it being his second word (the first being "magic"; Marcus hadn't even muttered nonsense yet). Instead, James muttered something like, "That's nice, Harry," and Lily scooped him into her arms and dropped him in his crib. Both parents said goodnight to their children, and left to go downstairs, closing the door behind them.
But Marcus didn't like the fact that the door was closed. Harry sensed this, and a temper tantrum, and looked at the door. A few seconds later, it opened a bit, very silently.
Satisfied, Marcus drifted off to sleep.
But Harry stayed alert. He could sense something wrong. So, since he couldn't sleep, he whispered, "Wumos," and a small glow started radiating from the child. He then looked at the book, then at his blanket, and back at the book, then back to the blanket. The book started moving, and Harry Potter watched as it flew onto his blanket.

"Maybe we shouldn't go."
"Lily, for the hundredth time, they'll be fine!"
"But James, I just have this feeling that something is going to go wrong."
"Marcus and Harry will be fine. You and I both know that Marcus will be perfectly fine, and Harry will be closely watched by Peter."
"Oh, I don't know, you go. I'll stay."
"Lily, come on. Padfoot is waiting for us outside."
Harry heard the front door close, and footsteps enter the house. He sensed a new disturbance....... It was Pettigrew.
Harry didn't like Pettigrew. He had looked into his eyes, and into his soul, and saw dark stuff all over the place. He didn't like him one bit.

Wormtail crept into the hallway, checking to make sure the twins were asleep. They were, so he silently snuck down the stairs and towards the front door. He stretched up as high as he could and looked out the peephole. He was there. All was ready.
