Riley's POV
"The name's Scott, m'lady." He bowed his head and tipped an imaginary fedora. I like this kid already. "Riley Barton." I said bluntly, sticking out my had which he shook. "So, how do you like S.H.I.E.L.D.? It can be a pain at times but over all, it's awesome here." He looked around, reminiscing I guess. "Yeah, I love it here; got my Dad back, no more of that place. So how long have you been here?" I asked before I could ramble on. "All my life really. My dad is-" but he was cut off by Fury through the intercom. "Agent Riley Barton and Agent Scott Fury, report to my office." I looked at Scott surprised, and nothing surprises me these days. "Wait, Fury is your Dad?" "Well, biologically but he doesn't act like it. Come on, let's go before he gets pissed." He sighed as I followed him out. I don't know why but I imagined Pirate Jr. to be uptight like his father but he was calm and looked like a regular teenager. Why do I feel so calm around him?! I never feel this way when I first meet people, especially if they attempt to sneak up on me!
We arrived at Fury senior's office. We knocked and entered when we heard him call. Dad and Nat were still there. "I see you two have become acquainted with each other, which is good because you two will be working together from now on." Fury informed us, then my Dad clarified things by saying, "You are now partners like Nat and I are." We nodded as neither of us had a problem with this. "Now, down to business." The Director slid a file towards us that we opened and read as he spoke, "You are going to be stationed in New Mexico to look after a cube called the tesseract. We found it when we found Steve Rodgers, also known as Captain America. We have scientists working on it but we need you to guard it incase of strange activity or if it was stolen. Riley, you will be stationed with Agent Barton. Scott, you are stationed with Agent Coulson. Is that clear?" He finished the debrief. I couldn't help but notice the venom in his voice when he said Scott's name. "Yes, Director." "Yes, sir." We both answered. "Good, you'll be leaving in 20. I recommend you stock up on amo, you'll be there for a few months." He dismissed us and we left the adults alone.
We walked in silence for a while until Scott spoke up, "Hey, um, you like archery don't you?" That was a bit of an awkward question but I'll just role with it. "Yeah, it's my primary weapon. I also like knives. What about you?" I questioned as I realised I barely knew him. "Well, I'm more of a tech-guy but I invent my own weapons." He smirked once again and I don't know why but it makes me happy every time he does. What's wrong with me?! "Invented?" I asked out of curiosity. "Yeah, I'm a child protégé. I graduated MIT when I was 13 and I help Stark out with a few projects, including the arc reactor for Stark Tower. Oh, I'm 15 by the way, forgot to mention that." He rambled with a sheepish grin which, surprisingly, I found adorable. "That reminds me, I made something for you. Follow me." He turned down another corridor and I followed suit. He led me to a white high-tech lab filled with electronic devices. I felt comfortable in here because it wasn't filled with chemicals but technology.
He walked over to his workstation were I saw my favourite thing in the world. Weaponry. "I read your file after Papa told me you joined and I thought these would be a good welcoming present." "I wouldn't think of Fury to be comfortable being called 'Papa'." He seems too strict for a nickname like that. "Oh, I don't mean Fury, I meant Phil. My father isn't much of a dad, Phil looked after me all these years so I started calling him Papa. My dad even gave him parental rights to me so I guess you can say Phil adopted me in a way. My dad never cared, he just treated me like another agent or like I wasn't there. I think he blames me for my Mom leaving or something." He sighed and I felt sympathy towards him. I hadn't seen my dad for years and he still cares even after my Mom died, but Scott's been with his dad that just doesn't care anymore. I pat his shoulder apologetically.
"Anyway, I made these for you," Scott pulled a band new quiver of filled with vibranium arrows with devices on the end. "Wow, is that vibranium, the meteoric ore used to make Captain America's shield? It's so rare, did you go all the way to Wakanda just for me?!" I spoke fast like a giddy 5 year old with a new toy. "Yeah it is, I didn't know you were into science." "I'm not really but when I was experimented on, one of the serums caused my brain capacity to increase 10%. I am also slightly stronger than your average teenage girl. Not Steve Rodgers strong but I can take down a full grown man.I guess you can say I cheated in my smarts." "Well, as well as being vibranium, they also have their own traits; the blue is electric, the red explodes, the yellow is a grapple-arrow, green renders people unconscious, black is a tracking device and the purple splits off into separate arrows to have a triple kill."
He then hands me something else, "I also know you like hidden blades and knives so I crafted these from adamantium, it is virtually indestructible and can cut through almost everything, except-" "adamantium itself and vibranium." I finished with an excited gleam in my eyes and I saw amazement in his, probably because no one his age would know this stuff and he's a year older than me. I picked up a knife and threw it at the a testing dummy... It cut straight through its head and out the other side, lodging itself in the wall. I squeal excitedly and hugged Scott. "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" He blushed at my praise (and possibly the close contact). "Hehe, no problem. You should probably get your stuff ready to go though, we have 5 minutes left before we leave for New Mexico." He informed me as I let go. I left the lab to get my things. I had been getting a suit ready for missions last night as I couldn't get to sleep. I collected the suit and other clothing as well as my new arsenal. Once I was done, I walked towards the hanger to meet my Dad, Uncle Phil, Agent Hill (who I met briefly) and Scott. This was going to be awesome... Or so I thought...
A/N: hey hope you enjoyed the chapter. let me now what you think of Scott? Will Fury ever lighten up? find out next time, until then, ill see ya in the next one :3
