"Ahem"
The sound cut like a laser cutting the glass, quickly and efficiently. The sound brought us back the now for it seemed that we had fallen back into the past. I quickly let her go, taking to steps back and fisting my hand tightly because I knew it was coming and I could to nothing but stare at the ground. If I looked in the mirror I would see the red hue of the blush that started from my neck, making its way upto my cheeks, the tint very starkly visible all thanks to my fair complexion.
Clearly my throat to dismiss the silence that had settled over the room, I made my way to the chest of drawers against the window and placed the frame at its rightful place.
"Umm.. I need to go buy groceries. I will be back shortly." Shormishta said walking out of the room.I looked out side the window my eyes unfocused as I thought about what I almost let happened. This was not supposed to happen. I was supposed to get my answer and leave, never to look back again. This was bad. Really bad.
Hearing the front door open and the close shut, I turned around and found Manjari stock still in the same spot. Where almost IT happened. Almost. Shaking my head to dispel all thoughts of what could have happened, I looked around the room. Spotting a burgundy sofa, I went and sat on it. The burgandy sofa was at contrast with the yellow walls of the room. YUCK. Who painted their wall yellow... And that shade it looked like someone puked all over the place.
Urgh... Not a nice imagery, Swayam.
"Manjari" I called softly. Hoping to break her away from the staring competition she was having with her feet. Seeing that she was adamant to win it. I called her louder.
"Manjari !"
Hearing the soprano tone of mine she seemed to have come back from which ever wonderland she went off to. Frantically she looked around. Guessing she was looking for her best friend.
I said. " she has gone to 'buy groceries' " with quote-fingers and all that jazz."Oooohkay"
Well isn't this awkward. What to do? Shall I ask her for my answers. But that would seem too.. Too.. I don't know. Humph.
So small talk it is."The questions you had? The answers you wanted. I am ready to give them."
Or maybe no small talk.
"Why are you in the state you are?" I sighed.
She raised her right eyebrow, tilted her head to the right. Her challenging look right there. It was a look I could never get down right for the simple reason my eyebrows never cooperated.
" Oh my. Do we still care. After you went to all lengths saying you were not same old Joe five minutes ago. You sure are acting like it." She said with a condescending tone.
And I didn't like it single bit.
"Manjari. Please. I.want to know. No. Actually you know what, I have to know. I have lived long enough without anyone giving me any reason why you disappeared the way you did. Even your own parents did not know anything about it. Do you know how pathetic I felt when they came to my house, with tears down their cheeks and hope in there eyes. They hoped that I knew where you had run off to. But I didn't. All I could do was say sorry to them, on your behalf !!! That no, I am sorry I don't know where your daughter is. Maybe you think that you don't owe any explaination to me but for the sake of your own parents please answer my questions." I didn't like how desperate that sounded. But that was what I was. Desperate. Desperate for her answers.
She sighed.
"I guess I can't keep it all hidden any longer, now that my best friend betrayed my location. So I am going to lay it out all in the open. But you have to promise me one thing."
"What is it?"
"No reaction, no questions, no comments, no anything. Until I am finished. Am I clear??"
"Crystal" I don't know how long can I hold on to it.
"Okay. So here goes nothing. "
