Breathing in pauses and inhalation, Gunny sarge Max Rhichter, slowly positions his rifle atop a rocky outcrop, outside reactor 2, one of the 4 reactors built at the height of the Former Soviet union's empire, in Chernobyl, Ukraine.
His rifle, an L115a1 .338 lapua magnum, can stop any heavily armed infantry body within the hands of any experienced marksman.
Setting up his magnum, Max, or when called by any senior officer, Maddox, grew up in Maryland, sitting by docks, watching yachts, trawlers or the occasional coastguard battleship pass by.
A silent and sensitive boy, all was changed when he met his friend, Jay or Jason Ledger.
Who, on this mission, aided him as his spotter. The same goes whenever he meets and combs away any neon-smiled sluts aiming to be Max's girlfriend, who was a handsome blond.
Jay was a redhead. But he exceeded Max in one thing, bitching about his pack. Which included a very heavy Barrett M82a1.
" Damn this wind" Jay swore under his breath. He was struggling to keep up with Max, who was the stronger of the two. Yet Max was not the one carrying that big Barrett anyway.
"Well, at least it won't kill ya." repied max via some head comms.
" Shit, Max, let's set up here, this rifle ain't getting no lighter." Jay swore under his specially made Hazmat suits. Camouflaged and disguised to be indistinctive to Chernobyl's foliage, if it had any. Chernobyl was a nuclear harnessing reactor during the epitome of the USSR, until reactor 2 went down, and it dragged 3 other plants down with it.
Putting his M82 down, Jason loaded a large .50 cal. slug inside a larger magazine. He then pushed the mag in place, inside the receiver of the rifle. He cocked and locked the big gun, and gave it to Max, swapping the Enfield for it.
Looking through the wonderful German Zeiss scope, which replaced the Accuracy arms international optics, for better viewing.
In his scope, Jay saw two Russian Paratroopers, he knew their unit because of the distinctive parachute patch emblazoned boldly on their Spetznaz uniforms. Mercenaries.
Max also saw those red mercs. He whispered to Jay, " Jay! No time for secondaries".
The temptation of shooting these Russkies is apparent. But his training kicked in. Pick and choose targets of opportunity, or shoot anything that hampers your getting to the target.
His target was Francis Archibald Tanner. Chemical and Microbiological engineer from one of those black-wing top secret group of the Air Force. Defector and traitor to the United States of America. One which the U.S. cannot ignore, One which they cannot allow to live.
E-mail from the Nukleus, a front company researching for nuclear, molecular and atomic studies and harnessing energy, is actually a front company for the ultranationalist faction, the Red Phoenix. Known for hiring defectors as fast as they can liquidate them. Those
e-mails revealed his intent, yet the U.S. homeland security hacker or "Cybersecurity" agent was late in bringing in his report, resulting in Frank's fast defection and disappearance.
As Max's scope panned away from the paras, a white buick surrounded by 4 UAZs, the Russian counterpart of the famed American-made humvee, entered his field of view.
Jason patched in the special operators, clad in radioactively resistant gear, awaited the russian convoy, confirming their approach.
They couldn't hear the sound of helicopter rotors inside their puffy headsets. The Russian government wants Tanner dead too. And the whole task force doesn't know it.
Little does the snipers know, everyone wanted this defector's ass dead.
