Sleepover

"My house, at 6. Don't forget!" Faiz told me. "What? Why? Are we having a sleepover?" I asked. "Yes, don't you remember?? Please tell me you've asked your mom..." "Oh, yes, now I remember!" I exclaimed, snapping my finger. "It was hard persuading mom, but I had my way."

To get mom to say: "Yes, you may go," isn't easy. You see, I didn't do well in my exam last year, and I passed by a few percentage, so, this is a tough challenge for me. I'd probably have 0.001% chance with my dad. My mom was less strict, and I thought I could give it a shot with her. Luckily, I came up with an idea and hoped for the best. Here's our conversation:

"Mom, Faiz is having a sleepover tomorrow, and he's inviting me. So, I was wondering... Can I go?"

"Sleepover? When? What time? Where? Who? Why? When are you coming back? Who's going? How are you going to get there? What...." That's mom alright.

"I've already packed up, and Faiz and the others also want me to help with their homework. Please?" (But, in fact, Faiz is a lot more smarter than I am. I'm the one who needs help in homework, actually..) And before she could get a word, I kissed her on the cheek.

"Aw, okay. Since you've packed up and you want to help your friends, I'd say why not?"

That was the sound of victory and success. I uttered a thanks and went off merily.

-----------------------------

"Who else did you invite?" I asked him. "Oh, the usual people... Farid, Zul, Yusri..." "I hope you didn't invite... you know who..." "Nah, I could go a day without filling my ears with 'Fitri's a role model' or 'Fitri's a wonderful kid'." And we both laughed.

I was 15 minutes late that night, but I was the earliest among my friends. The rest came no later then 7. The first event is 'Roasted Marshmallow under the Stars'. A campfire was set at Faiz's backyard, and soon:

Lets gather around the campfire,

And sing our campfire song,

Our C-A-M-P-F-I-R-E S-O-N-G song

And if you don't think that we can sing it faster then you're wrong

But it'll help if you just sing along...

"Hey, where's the last packet of marshmallow? I put it right here, beside me..." Farid said. "Chubby's got it! Quick! Save it before he eats them all!" I said as I pointed at Yusri, who seemed to not notice anything. Chubby is his nickname, but Yusri didn't at least mind being called that. "It's not a bad name. To me, chubby is like being called 'Plump but Cute'." He said one day, when I asked him.

We played video games together, then a loud game of 'Snap!', and then a quiet game of scrabble. Soon, it came to the 'Main Event - Horror movies and games'. Lights off, computer on. Nothing could be heard. It was a perfect 'scene' for horror movies. Disc in. We watched 'Case 39' and 'Orphan' 'till 11pm.

My God, they scared the life out of me!

"Pffft... it ain't that scary. You guys are such babies. Look at me. I'm just cool." Zul teased us. "Well, then, explain why are you clinging on to me so tightly." I asked, trying to get free from his tight grip. "I was just keeping you warm, that's all. It sure is cold in here, isn't it?"

"Let's play sin Thai house!" I exclaimed. "Great idea," Faiz said, and winked at me. I knew what he meant. We know Zul is sort of a coward in these kind of things. At school, Zul is more like a bully, known to pick a fight with others, only he doesn't bully people for money or lunch. His condition is that if you mess with him, he'll beat you up. But over here, he's like a little girl who lost her big red balloon. "What's sin Thai house?" Yusri asked, a confused expression on his face. "Oh, you'll find out." Faiz told him. "Why don't you play?" He offered Yusri, and he faced the computer screen to him. Yusri, who was missing the point that this was a horror game simply agreed.

Faiz and I had already played this game, so we knew all the suprises. I felt like rolling on the floor in laughter seeing Zul's face. But I'm afraid I'll taste his punches, so I had to cough to 'disguise' my laughter.

Yusri's face was the funniest. He was fat, and he had chocolate smudged on his face and shirt. His eyes were bulging and just stared in horror at the computer screen. Have you seen a plump boy, covered in chocolate, staring at the computer in the dark? Believe me. It's funnier than you think.

Farid was excited about this whole thing at first. His other friends recommended this game and also heard their review on it. "You should try playing it! There's racing cars, and rockets to outer space, zombies and aliens... it's just so cool!" He should have known better, but his weakness was that he's never heard of the word 'Sarcasm'. His face was the closest to the screen.

"There's something along the corridor," Farid told us. This was one of the sign to cover up our ears and bury our faces in the pillows. There was a girl, dressed in white. Her skin was grey and her long hair covered her face. She was at the end of the corridor. There was also a soft, scary voice of a girl singing 'La di da da... La di dada...' and the background music was just as terrifying. Yusri clicked once. The lights at the corridor turned off, then on, and she got closer and closer until she was in front of the screen. Then her hand opened her hair like a curtain and let out a cry.

"MommiEEeeeEeeeeeeeee!!!!" Farid screamed and squeezed me tightly. I felt pity for him, as he expected good things from this game, and his face was the closests to the screen. Luckily, no one in the house woke up.

That girl had revealed her true face and when the lights turned off, and on again, she dissappeared... her singing went on, and it eventually faded.

It was past midnight. We just had to stop at the near end of the game because the three of them were already frightened kittens. Even Zul's face was pale. I was pretty scared myself too. In fact, all of us were. We were tired, but too frightened to go to sleep. The images in the game were being played all over and over again in our mind. 'I know there are no such things, but the face and the horror...' My heart said. I had a thought in my mind. I looked over at Zul, and suprisingly, he fell asleep. So did Chubby.

I whispered to Faiz and Farid, "What if... we played a prank on Zul?" "Oooh.. What kind of prank?" Farid asked in delight. "A ghost prank, maybe. We'll pretend to be ghosts... something like that," "When?" Faiz asked. "Tonight. We'll wake each other up," I replied.

Soon enough, my eyes couldn't take it anymore and it shut tight.

------------------------------

KRINGGG!!

At first, I can't imagine where in the world am I. I expected mom or dad to wake me up gently, not a loud, annoying alarm clock.

Ahh, yes. We were having a sleepover at Faiz's. Zul declared that we should go swimming as our next activity.

"You didn't wake us up!" Farid said in a low voice, because Zul was near. "I might have overslept..." I said, rubbing the back of my neck with a wide, 'Forgive Me' smile. "But next time, for sure!" I said with a reassuring smile.

Yes... Next time, alright.. >:)
