Jealousy is an ugly thing; it can take over your mind if you're not careful. For Bethany jealousy was the sole reason and purpose for her torment of Sapphire. She saw how Serena looked at her, she saw the twinkle in her eyes as she stared at Sapphire. Bethany couldn't understand the infatuation with this human girl. The Alpha had her reasons for many things, but humans have proven in the past to be untrustworthy of their secrets. They have hunted their kind for generations; who's to say this girl won't do the same?

She'd heard the Alpha's words, "Stay away from her." She couldn't, her wolf refused to stay away. There was something that drove her forward to punish Sapphire.

Before she could strike her, she felt a sharp sensation emanate from her cheek. The pain was unbearable as she collapsed to the floor.  Looking up, she realized that it was Serena herself that did it. Before she could say anything, she was gone and with Sapphire in tow. And then, with a weak sounding "Alpha wait." she was gone

---------

I have half a mind to kill that girl before the day is done. She knew I specifically said to stay away from her until I was sure she was who I thought she was. As I walk down the hallway, with Sapphire safely under my arm, she looks up at me with her innocent eyes piercing into my soul. "Why does she hate me so much. What did I do to her to make her hate me so much, I don't understand why.”? Her voice comes in barely above a whisper, but you could hear her voice breaking as she speaks, the pain clear in her tone.

Before I have a chance to respond a shrill scream makes my head shoot up. A few feet in front of us a woman hangs from someone’s arms; her body limp, her eyes lifeless. I can see his head buried in her neck as Sapphire shakes both of my arms. Behind him others walk towards him and soon stand by his side. The woman falls to the floor dead. "Find the girl, leave no survivors. If you see her, end her miserable existence so our mother can be rid of her." The others fan out in search of someone. I need to get Sapphire out of here before it’s too late. Through the pack link, I'm able to notify the members I have within the school walls.

I can hear the screams from every student, every man, woman and child. My priority is getting Sapphire to safety but before I can make it to my truck, we're surrounded. I count six, maybe more and as I look down at Sapphire, I can feel her heartbeat getting faster with each pulse. It's almost like time itself slowed down as they launch towards me. Immediately my wolf comes forward, engaging the enemy. Sapphire collapses to her knees as she watches. Vampires have been our mortal enemy since the beginning we've been at odds for centuries and the bloodshed never ceases.

One hops on my back and tries sinking its’ teeth into me, but before it can it is flown from me. I look up and see Alara dispose of it. in quick fashion she turns to me and nods. She's always had my back; I should make sure to thank her later. Like we'd done our whole lives fighting side by side we quickly fell the rest of the bloodsuckers.

"Alpha these were newborns, haven't been turned for long." Alara says snapping the neck of the last one.

"Agreed I haven't seen newborns in a long time, check the school for survivors. Find the warriors and make sure the humans are safe." With a nod she's off

I turn towards Sapphire and see her staring at me in shock. With a sigh I come over and kneel so we're eye level. "Hey now isn't the time to freeze up we have to get you out of here." I say helping her up. "I was right, werewolves do exist." she says her voice barely above a whisper, her eyes not leaving mine. I nod and cup her cheeks "I'll explain everything later okay, but we have to move before they come back.

The few warriors I have stationed here regroup. Thankfully nobody is hurt one of them, a few inches taller than, I turn towards me His jet-black hair reflecting off the sun "Alpha, this attack was organized they were trained and knew what weaknesses to attack." I nod, understanding this might be something serious to investigate "Thank you Oberon, I will take this into consideration, go home check on your mate. I hear she's due any day now?"

"Yes, alpha she's close to her due date any day now." Oberon is the pack's battle master; he trains her members as well as our existing forces. His mate Alyssa is pregnant and is very close to giving birth to what we hope are healthy pups.

Alara joins us shortly as we walk towards my truck she looks towards Sapphire and with a smile says "I have to admit I'm not surprised you figured out our existence. It was pretty impressive." for a split second it looked like Sapphire smiles before it disappears just as fast as it came.

The ride to the pack lands is about an hour or so long as we pass over the border the warriors run beyond the treelined following us all the way to the main lodge. Our pack rests on a large plot of land our ancestors discovered when they landed here in the early years of the pack. In the beginning we had only 15 or so members, but now we span close to 300 members. Pulling next to the lodge I've called home since I was a little girl. Three figures come running outside from this distance. I can immediately tell who it is. A flash of blonde bolts towards me engulfing me in a tight hug. My little sister Sadie.

When we were younger, my parents made me swear, I would take care of her. They gave their lives so we could live on. Sadie always worried when I left home, whether it was for pack business or for school she always was so scared.

"shah I'm okay Sadie it was just vampires." at that she steps on my foot with a scowl and looks at me "Just vampires, Rena they're dangerous and you know it." With a huff she turns towards Sapphire and gasps "Hey you're her, aren't you? Hi, I'm Sadie, it's nice to meet you." at the sudden excitement of my sister Sapphire looks at me with hopeful eyes.

I smile and pull Sadie back "Alright squirt, that's enough, give her some space she's been through a lot. The last thing we need is you giving her a heart attack." with a nod she scampers off into the house leaving me and Sapphire alone. I turn towards her and smile "When you're ready come inside, there's some things we have to talk about." She nods and I walk inside, unprepared for all the things I must tell her. I just hope she's ready to hear everything that I have to say before running off in fear or worst case lashing out at me for keeping such a secret from her. I couldn't bare it if she hated me. Or worse rejected me. Our mates, our fated ones are meant to be with us forever. She's my reason to live. She's special and all I want is for her to believe in herself.

Sadie's bubbly personality is enough to make even the most stoic of werewolves smile. She's always so pure, energetic and full of questions. So as we walk into the living room and my eyes catch Sapphire trying to make sense of Sadie's rapid fire questioning. I can't help but stiffen a laugh at the sight. "How long have you known about us?" "Does your family know too?" each question rolls off her tongue faster than the last. Sapphire turns to me for help and again I can't help but laugh. I make my way over and grab squirt by her shoulders "Squirt the last thing we need to do is overwhelm her. Get going there will be time for questions later." she let's out a groan and scampers off. I take a deep breath and turn to meet Sapphires curious gaze. "Are you ready to talk now?"
