Chapter One:

The end of Sophomore year couldn't come soon enough. As I sat in my class, bored to death, I counted the seconds until 3 o'clock. 5, 4, 3, 2...

1.

The bell rang and I was the first one out the door. Summer!

My best friend, Lei, met me by the door and we walked home together. "We're Juniors now!!" She squealed.

"We will be after summer." I threw a smile her way.

"Hah, yeah. BUT STILL!" Lei tripped on the sidewalk and I laughed at her epic fail but catch her so she won't bust open her face.

"You klutz, pay more attention!" I smacked her arm, laughing the whole time.

"I can't help it," she said, embarrassed.

We walked into my house, and Mom was already home. "Aubree, I found you a great summer job!" Are her first words. Not 'Hello, sweetie. How was your day?' or something nice like a normal mom.

I didn't even have to ask. She launched into her story.

"Brenda came by today and told me Tristan is going to work at that cute little diner by the theater this summer, and I submitted a job application for you. And for you, Lei! Tristan already works there, so at least you'll have friends!"

I suppressed a groan. My mother had been best friends with Brenda Jameson since high-school and wanted me to be all buddy-buddy with Brenda's weird ass son. "Mom, me and Tristan are not friends."

"Why not? He is so sweet."

"Sweet? He's a total freak." Lei said. "Have you seen what he wears? Black. Every single day. And there's those creepy lip rings..."

"He may have a different taste in style than you two but he's still a person," Mom argued.

I shrugged and took Lei's arm, going upstairs to my bedroom. We hung out a while and she stayed over for the night. The next day was Saturday so we made a day of it. Lei got her drivers license- finally, she turned sixteen in March.

First we hit the mall which was huge and awesome and had all the best stores. I bought the cutest casual dress that was a soft turquoise and had a little brown belt. The sleeves hung off my shoulders, and I got some cute lace and cork heels to go with it.

We also got cute swimsuits since it was summer and we would need them. After the mall we got a late lunch and went to a movie. After our one day of freedom was over, we went home and crashed on my bed again.

Tomorrow we started work at Judy's Diner.

So, does anyone think this is a great first chapter for a book? Because I don't. I'm just not sure how to start this story. Anyway, please read, comment, and vote! I like the feedback and it helps me write faster. Also, I have written some other books so check them out. Have a great day :)
