Chapter Five
The next morning I paced across my room wondering what I should do. I felt horrible. I don't like hurting people and Tristan was clearly hurt. I picked up my phone and scrolled to a number I had only used... never.
"Hello?" A female voice answered on the third ring.
"Hello, is Tristan there?" I asked Mrs. Jameson.
She was quiet a moment then yelled. "TRISTAN. He's right here." Then she whispered, "It's a girl calling for you." She sounded so excited I was afraid she would have a heart attack.
"Hello?" He sounded wary and I heard a door shut on his end of the line.
"Hey, this is-"
"I know who it is, Aubree."
"Oh. Well, sorry. I didn't have your cell number," I said and paused.
"What do you want?" There's a bitter edge to his voice. Was Tyler telling me the truth? Does Tristan really like me? I don't understand why he would.
"I... I am so sorry about last night, Tristan. I had no idea they would do something like that. I can't believe they... well I can believe it but it was so wrong of them-"
"You kissed me back."
"What?"
"You did."
It was quiet for a minute. "I did." I admitted. It's quiet again.
"We have work today." He reminded me.
"Yeah, I better go. But I really am sorry."
Click. Okay, apparently I am not worth a goodbye.
"Bye." I muttered and put my phone down. Work should be fun today.
Lei picked me up a few minutes later. "I can't wait for two days from now."
"Why?" I asked. Two days from now would be my birthday.
"You'll be able to drive yourself to work." She laughed and nudged me. "I'm joking."
We pulled into the parking lot and I got out, taking a deep breath and closing my eyes.
