It's been a week and Kyle just keeps getting weirder. He avoided me sometimes. He would duck his head when certain people would pass in the hallway. He would give me weird looks as we would walk and his face would get red. I needed to know what was wrong with him.
Kyle kept mysteriously getting bruises and cuts, he was also becoming very timid.
I was so worried that this weekend, when I spent the night at his house, I decided to investigate a bit.
~~~
The walk home was silent. Once again I found myself staring at my red headed best friend. I had been doing this a lot lately, a strange churning in my stomach I couldn't explain. Kyle had his head down, his hair almost covering his eyes. A light pink dusted his cheeks, it might have been the cold though. We shuffled along the road, hands in our pockets.
As Kyle's house came into view Kyle speed up just a bit. I didn't question him, just kept the same pace. Soon we came up to his front steps and Kyle practically ran up them. I went after him, slightly slower. Kyle kept going, straight through the door to the inside of the house, not even waiting for me to catch up. 'hmm' I thought to myself.
I went through the door after him just in time to see him retreat up the stairs, his mother calling him from the kitchen. "Kyle?" she called. When she got no response she tried again. "Kyle, are you home?" "Yes, we're here Shelia" I answered for him. I walked into the kitchen to talk to Shelia. She looked at me, slightly concerned.
"Does Kyle seem strange to you?" she questioned me. I understood what she meant and nodded my head. "He's been avoiding me" I supplied, "and he keeps getting bruised up." Kyle's mother looked very concerned. I knew how she felt, I felt it too.
"I'll keep an eye on him, I promise" I assured her, turning to walk out of the room. I left the room and quickly made to get up the stairs, not noticing Kyle at all.
As I went up the steps I lifted my head. Staring right at me was a pair of very startled green orbs.
Before anything could escape my mouth, I rammed into Kyle. Since I was the bigger one instead of falling down the stairs in a tumble, I fell onto him. I heard a loud crack.
For a moment everything was silent. I lay on top of Kyle, not daring to move.
I moved my head to stare at him. His nose was slightly red, there were tiny tears in his eyes, and his breath was rapid. My thoughts wandered and I couldn't stop myself from thinking, 'cute.'
I sucked in a breath when one of his eyes fluttered open. His green eye sparkled with the small amount of tears and he was just adorable that I wanted to just lean down and kiss all the tears out of his eyes. Then move down and kiss his beautiful lips- 'wait, no, Stan, stop thinking like that, it's just Kyle.' I felt my face get a tad warmer.
Suddenly his face got super red, all the way to his ears, it even covered his nose, and his eyes widened. He started squirming around rapidly.
"Hey, hey Kyle, calm down would you" I almost shouted, but he kept on squirming. After a while I sigh. I get off him and he immediately shoots up the stairs, but he stopped at the top.
"You ok Ky?" I asked, concerned and confused. "Fine" I heard him squeak out. Then he ran back to his room, or I assumed.
'I needed to find out what was wrong with him, I needed to know.' I thought determinedly.
