Meeting the parents wasn't too much of a thrilling experience. A few 'hi's' and that was it. Jamin wasn't too bothered though. Walking into Thorgy's room, he was slightly taken back. It was so much more colourful than his mostly black, dusty attic room and he as kind of jealous. Jamin wished he thought more colourfully. He noticed 2 pots on Thorgy's desk- one filled with lollipops and one filled with bubble gum. A wall was covered in pictures of him with people, some famous, some not. A big spot was left in the middle, a sad face drawn there.
"What's this?" Jamin asked, pointing at the lime green wall. Thorgy jumped off his bed a smiled. He grabbed his Polaroid camera off his shelf and shuffled up next to Jamin.
"Smile." He said, giving a big cheesy grin to the camera. Jamin pulled a funny face and laughed when the picture came out, shaking his head.
"You hipster."
"I'm not a hipster!" Thorgy huffed, sticking blue tack to the picture. "It just looks nice."
Jamin rolled his eyes but grinned when he saw their selfie together stuck on top of the sad face.
"I'd been saving that for a best friend." Thorgy laughed, grabbing an Archie comic off his shelf and lying back down. Jamin was touched but wasn't going to let it shine through. He noticed a heart drawn on the wall, leftover blue tack in the middle of it. He bent down and picked up a ripped picture up from the floor. Spitballer.
"Yo, who's this?"
"Oh, that's Calum," Thorgy snatched the picture out of his hands. "Dated me for a dare. Outed me to the whole school."
Jamin looked down and shuffled with his feet. "Oh. How long did he keep it up?"
"A year and a half." Thorgy spat, throwing the picture in the bin and sitting back on his bed.
Jamin wanted to tell him that he was the kid he swore at, but opted to drop the conversation for the sake of his friend. The fact that the picture was still on the floor broke Jamin's heart even more, knowing it happened not too long ago. He joined Thorgy on the bed and crossed his legs, bringing out his sketch pad. Thorgy was too engrossed in his comic and twirling gum around his finger to notice Jamin sketching. He wasn't going to draw him again today but the head bandana he was wearing was so cute he couldn't resist.
"What're you drawing?"
Shit. Jamin shut the book and placed it on the ground next to him, grabbing his water bottle.
"Nothing. Don't worry about it."
Thorgy shrugged and chucked his comic somewhere, leaning so he was like Katy Perry in teenage dream.
"Have you seen any girls you like?"
Jamin nearly choked on the water he was drinking. This was so out of the blue. Serves him right for thinking he could avoid sexuality topics his whole life. Thorgy laughed at his flustered self and sat up properly.
"C'mon, tell me who!" He giggled, clapping his hands.
"Well.... Miss Fronz, our science teacher, sure is cute."
Smooth Jamin. Play it off with a joke. Thorgy rolled his eyes and sat back, fiddling with a random bracelet on his wrist. It was silence for about a minute until before he spoke up.
"Jamin?"
"Yeah?"
"Do you... Do you like boys?"
Jamin's face went blank. He felt as though as he was frozen to the ground. His whole mind was screaming and shouting at him. He wanted to tell Thorgy, but how could he? He didn't want a repeat of his other school.
"I have to go." He said, standing up and grabbing his bag. He waved goodbye to Thorgy's confused face and ran out the door, accidentally slamming it. He ran the whole way home making his breathing more messed up than before and locked himself in his room. He needed to calm down. He needed his-Thorgy stuck his head over the side of the bed and noticed a rather large sketchbook sitting there. He grinned and picked it up, hugging it close to his chest. He could finally see all of his friends arty secrets. Getting himself comfortable, he opened up Jamins prized possession. First off, a drawing of him. Thorgy chuckled at the memory and turned the page. Second off, a drawing of him. He turned the page again. Third off, a drawing of him. Thorgy was getting confused. Why did Jamin draw him so much? Was it out of humour? Friendship? Did Jamin have a crush on him? Thorgy slammed the book shut. Did Jamin like him like that?
