This is a tribute I wrote for Levi on account of episode 21 – 22. I adopted a different tone in this first attempt of fan fic I have ever wrote and people who haven't seen these episodes wont be able to understand much.

I just made an attempt to write Levi's feelings because those scenes affected me very deeply and they were quite tragic. Moreover, if you are fan of SNK manga or anime feel free to talk to me.

If you like this attempt, please vote, comment and help me in going further. I also need to mention, I previously posted this in my old account, but the account got deleted and I didn't have any back up file so I rewrote this.

Happy Reading!

BURNT WINGS

Nobody was looking at the captain, at the sullen look in his eyes and the pain written all over his usually rigid and firm face. They were all too busy tending to their own wounds - the scars that were received from titans. Titans (the homogeneous monsters that devoured mankind and had forced humanity inside a limited territory of the walls). But the bloody bandages covering the wounds couldn't remove the pain that these soldiers had received when their fellow warriors and their comrades in arms were eaten right in front of their eyes. Crushed mercilessly like rag dolls without any souls.

Levi's eyes which usually burned with spirit of slaying titans and saving humanity were dull, after the events of today, for the first time, those burning orbs were rendered spiritless.

He was looking at the path ahead that led to the wall - inside which the humanity was confided from the fear of titans that roamed outside - but they were not entirely focused to the destination. Instead they were reminiscing the past; the dreadful events that had taken place in the few hours. Everything flashed before his eyes like dust dancing in air, and the sick twisted feeling inside his gut was more wrenching than ever.

They were about to return home when it happened. He had thought the female titan – who had appeared rather mysteriously and killed plenty of men was dead itself. He had been sent back to his squad on Irwin's orders and being a soldier it was his duty to do so even though he wasn't sure if that choice was correct. He trusted Irwin's insight and followed him with all his honesty but that time he had been in doubt. Why is he sending me back if the squad is returning to the walls as well? But the moment he made it back, that doubt had change into something that couldn't be explained.

The titan wasn't dead...but it had managed to kill. Irwin sent him as a gamble and once again Irwin's prediction had been true.

The first body had been hanging on a tree and he didn't fail to recognize the man. Something had twitched inside his gut but he didn't need explanations. It was a member of his own squad, someone he selected himself. His fellow had fallen fighting the female titan and died a death of a soldier.

The wound wasn't too deep for Levi. He thought others might have escaped safely but as soon as he moved forward and saw other bodies lying around the place lifelessly he realized the horror of the situation. Every one of them had been killed mercilessly. Levi had stepped on a large tree looking down at Petra's body which stayed limply against that tree, her spine was broken and her cheek was smeared with blood. She had been closest one to him in the whole squad, she respected him the most, and she trusted him with his life and followed him without question. And now she was dead. He wasn't staring at the injury; he was staring in her eyes.
