After Steve agreed to help the senator with what he wanted, the senator took Steve to another room to explain to him what he was supposed to do. While Steve was gone, I talked to Peggy, not wanting to be alone right now.
"Are you alright Elizabeth?" is the first thing she asks me.
I nod my head and answer with a simple, "Yes."
Peggy looks at me skeptically while raising one of her eyebrows and crossing her arms over her chest.
"I just couldn't hold onto the fact that he had died and I had been there when he died. It also didn't help that his blood was still all over my hands." I explain to Peggy quietly, hoping she understands. She nods and pulls me into a quick hug.
"I'm very sorry. I know he was close to you." Peggy says sincerely as she pulls away from me. I just nod my head, feeling like I might cry again.
"I'm sorry, I've never been in a situation like this before." Peggy apologizes, handing me a handkerchief to wipe away my tears.
"It's fine." I say, giving her a small smile. She starts to say something, but Steve had walked into the room, and he looked very angry.
"What happened?" Peggy asks him as he comes to stand behind me.
I turn around to face him as he shakes his head and says, "It's nothing."
I raise my eyebrow at him. He looks at me and shakes his head again.
"Agent Carter, we're leaving now!" Colonel Phillips shouts into the room.
Peggy looks at the both of us before saying, "Stay safe and don't get into any trouble."
We both agree we won't before telling her goodbye. After Peggy had left, Steve and I were the only ones left in the room.
"The senator said we had the rest of the day to ourselves before I have to leave." Steve tells me, looking down at me.
"What about me?" I ask, my voice raising in panic.
"You're coming with me." Steve says, grabbing my shoulders and looking me in the eye.
"I promise I'm not going to leave you, okay? I will always be with you." Steve says sincerely. I nod my head and throw my arms around him, suddenly feeling very exhausted from today's events.
"Come on, let's go." Steve says as I unwrap my arms from him. He leads the way out of the room and back down the hallway into the lab. Steve looks around before pushing me to stand on his other side.
"Come on." Steve says, quickly pulling me through the lab. I turn my head around to see what Steve wanted to hide from me, but I quickly turn my head back around when I notice it was the spot where Dr. Erskine had died. No one had gotten around to cleaning the blood off the floor yet.
"Where are we going Steve?" I ask him as he leads me through the shop.
"We're going to a hotel. You need to rest." Steve tells me, leading me down the street.
"How are we going to pay for it? We don't have any money." I say to him.
"The senator gave me enough for one night." he tells me. I nod my head and continue to follow him down the street. Soon, he leads me into one of the many hotels in Brooklyn.
"One room please." he asks the man at the counter. The man looks between the two of us and hesitantly asks us how long we would be staying.
"Just tonight." Steve answers him.
"That'll be $3.21 then." the man replies. Steve hands him the money the senator gave him and waits for his change.
"Here is your change and your room key. You're staying in room 241." the man says, handing Steve his change and the key. Steve thanks the man and leads me to the elevator at the far end of the room.
