Armed & Dangerous

Chapter 10
Levy sat at her kitchen table, staring longingly out the window. She watched a few cars drive by, stopping at an intersection to allow a boy and a girl cross the street. Levy let out a small sigh, looking away from the couple and down at her mug filled with hot coffee.
She heard light foot steps from the stairwell, followed by a soft voice.
"Good morning." Wendy greeted her older sister, yawning as she walked up to the table. Levy acknowledged her, but didn't listen. Only continued to look at the cup of coffee.
Wendy's attention was held by her sister's sad gaze. She wondered why she had been like this, and wondered why Levy didn't reply to her morning greeting. Though, she decided to not question it. She only assumed her gloom was caused by work, which in some way, it was.
Levy's mind replayed the night before, over and over. She just couldn't let go of the fact that he left without even saying goodbye, let alone an explanation.
"What is he protecting me from?" Levy thought as she finished up her coffee.
"Why was it bad that he spent the night?" She stood up, walking to her kitchen and placing her mug in the sink.
"...why didn't he tell me he loved me in person?" She walked upstairs silently, going into her room and closing the door.
"I could've helped him too." Levy glared at nothing in particular as she thought about it. She took off her night gown.
"I could've helped protect both of us." She began to put on her uniform, slipping into her pants and a tank top. Levy grabbed her button up shirt and put it around her shoulders.
"What was he thinking?" She wondered as she buttoned up her shirt.
"What was I thinking?...." Levy stared at her reflection in the mirror of her dresser, putting her hat on top of her head of curly blue hair.
"Why, of all people, did I fall in love with this man?" She asked herself as she stared at her police badge.
"An officer who is in love with a criminal, now that's a good fairy tale." Levy said quietly out loud, chuckling. She shook her head with a small smile, staring at the framed photo on her dresser. It was of her family. Her mother, father, 5 year old Levy, and baby Wendy.
"Can you believe that, mom? Dad? Your little angel loves a criminal..." Levy joked to herself. She knew he wasn't a criminal. Well, thought he wasn't a criminal.
Levy began to walk to her door. Quick footsteps were heard from behind the door, which confused her. She noticed the door was cracked a bit, and that confused her even more. Levy opened the door and walked down the hall, peering into her sisters room. She wasn't in there, so Levy walked downstairs.
Wendy was seated at the table, pouring herself a glass of orange juice. Levy was beyond confused, she wondered if it was even footsteps she heard earlier. She shook it off and went over to hug her sister.
"I'm going to head to work. Romeo and Macao are coming over today, right?" Levy asked as she wrapped her arms around Wendy. The smaller blunette hugged her back.
