Chapter 2
My head jerked up with the sound of my alarm. My arms and legs were soaked with nervous sweat, and I was panting like I just did a five mile run. My fists tightly gripped my sheets causing slight cramps to shoot up my arm. Somehow I can't get rid of that memory. The one that will haunt me forever no matter what my future holds.
I slapped my alarm clock which was starting to get on my nerves. I knew I had to get up or I would be late for work because I take forever to get ready in the morning. I slid my legs off my bed and slowly stood up. It's weird, whenever I have stressful dreams I wake up like a first time hungover teenager. I walked over to the bathroom and switched on the light. I picked up my brush and began to run it through my dirty blonde hair which fell down to my lower back. Not pleased with my my hair's part I slipped it back into a high messy bun. The big T-shirt I was wearing stuck to my thighs due to all the sweat that was still dripping on my legs. I decided to hold off on the makeup today because I was already going to be late for work which started at 7:45. When I walked into my bedroom the clock read 7:15.
"Crap," I muttered under my breath. How did I take fifteen minutes to do my hair? I was supposed to be on my way by now so I slipped on some super skinny jeans that outlined all of the muscles on my legs that I got from the many dedicated hours I spent dancing each week. Although the winter season was reaching an end, it was still freezing cold outside, so I pulled a sweatshirt over my head and pinned my Forever 21 name badge by my heart. At least that's how they described the placement of it at 'training'. I decided to skip breakfast since I was already going to be late. Ugh, how much worse could this get.
**
"Alaina, you're late," my boss said quite casually, but with annoyance behind her voice.
"I'm sorry, I-I overslept," I stuttered, afraid of what she was going to say next. I'm usually never late so the punishment won't be too horrible. I hope.
"Well, lucky for you I happen to be in a good mood today so you can just start right away once you clock in."
"Thank you so much Nicole, it won't happen again!" I explained in a bit too perky voice. I hate it when I do that because it's definitely a pet peeve of mine.

Towards the end of my shift, it was around four o' clock. I was not looking forward to my walk home. I seriously hate the fact that I don't have a car. I don't even have the money for a reasonably sized apartment nonetheless a car.
"Alright Alaina, you're free to go." Nicole chuckled as she looked at her watch.
"See you tomorrow, Nicole," I muttered to her out of tiredness.
When I walked out the doors of Forever 21, I heard my stomach growl. I just realized I hadn't eaten anything all day. I skipped breakfast and didn't take my lunch break since it just happens to be the busiest time of day.
I decided to stop by a Starbucks to get a snack before dinner, so I don't pass out during dance class. I walked in, greeted by the aroma of coffee filling my senses and making me feel dizzy for a few moments. Being myself, I clumsily tripped over my own feet and ran into a man standing in line.
"Sorry, sorry," I blurted out, meeting the man's gaze. As I fully took in the figure in front of me, my mind registered that this man was easily the most attractive human being I had ever encountered. He anxiously bit his full lips and ran his fingers through his short, light brown hair. His dark chocolate eyes were buried on my face. There was no way of escaping his beautiful gaze. His muscles were flawlessly sculpted under his smooth, tan skin. He embodied the phrase "tall, dark, and handsome."
I coughed to break the tension, "Sorry, but do I know you?"
"No, you don't. I have to go," he abruptly exclaimed and practically ran out the door.
"Well, that was strange..." I muttered to myself.
When the man said "next" in a very monotone voice I ordered a double shot espresso and an egg salad sandwich. I literally inhaled the sandwich right when they handed it to me. I still felt hungry, but satisfied enough to wait until dinner. Now for the walk home, the moment I have been dreading all day. I swear, I'm so lazy.
When I headed out the door I could feel someone watching me, but decided to ignore it. It was pretty dark outside for 4:30 pm, and the streetlights weren't on because they are wired to go on at 6:30pm. It was eerily quiet for some reason and I felt chills run up my back. I could feel each of the hairs stand up one by one. By now I was out of the parking lot and on my way to the neighborhood. The town I lived in was so small and innocent you barely witnessed a car driving around after 3:45. Suddenly I was aware of every step I took, every finger twitched, and every shiver that escaped my mouth. I stopped in my tracks, something wasn't right. I could see up ahead all the lights were since it was so dark, but they didn't turn on for a few blocks. Just as I thought this through a large hand snatched my arm. I turned to look who it was and practically screamed. It was him, the man from Starbucks.
"Don't scream! I'm not the one you should be afraid of," he demanded still holding my arm tight.
