Death? - Chapter 7

My hair whipped across my face as I hastily kept moving it to see the view before me. Hogwarts stood there, tall and magnificent, just as it had done when that warty hog had shown it to Rowena Ravenclaw in her dream. I sighed, feeling so blissful to be a part of all this.

Magic thrummed in the air as Buckbeak beat his wings harder and we soared to the very tips of the clouds. It wasn't the same azure blue up here as you would think from looking up at the sky from below. Here it was alight with golden splendour. Here, the clouds glimmered with a golden glint.

I shuddered as I suddenly remembered that nightmare. I pinched my arm as a reflex and let out a sigh of relief as I saw my blood filling the white patch of skin with pink again.

Looking down, I grinned, everyone looked like puny ants from up here. I could still see their shocked faces of apprehension and without another glance, I ushered Buckbeak up even higher until they were no more than dots mottling the green forest with grey.

"Higher, Buckbeak, higher. Come on, I know you can do this," I urged him on.

I looked up again, but the clouds were golden no more. Something was amiss. I shivered as the air was suddenly colder around me. The clouds came thick and faster and Buckbeak suddenly let out a squawk in panic.

What the hell?! Why does this suddenly feel like a cliché movie scene?

Finally, I found the answers to my questions but they were not exactly what I was hoping for.

"DEMENTORS! WHY AM I SO STUPID?! I'M NO WORSE THAN PARKINSON!" hyperventilating, I whispered, "Buckbeak, I need you to turn around and go lower, pronto!"

But did Buckbeak hear anything I said?

He was zooming forward, faster than ever, straight towards the grimly eager Dementors. Dark thoughts squeezed into my brain and left no space for reason and logic to take charge. Buckbeak must have felt this too since all of a sudden, even he started flying haphazardly and mewing like a new born kitten.

The Dementors were circling us like hungry sharks, their grey hoods making them seem all the more macabre. Buckbeak and I were now plummeting towards the earth and bile rose up in my throat as I thought about my two possible ways to afterlife. At least now I have a use for my imaginary life insurance, I thought.

As if hearing my lame attempt at a joke, the Dementors suddenly froze and peered down at me. This is it, I thought, I'll either end up brain dead or bone dead.

Wincing and closing my eyes tightly shut, I waited for my ultimate death sentence. But before, you could even blink, there was a big splash and I hurtled down into the murky waters of Hogwarts Lake.

I get it, God, you're trying to make my death as slow and torturous as possible. Sadness and anger punched me in the gut as I miserably lashed in the water. All I had wanted was to touch the clouds but I had ended up playing 'Tag' with some Dementors and now possibly 'Drown the Human' with the mermaids. Dammit, I didn't even know how to swim!

Buckbeak was now probably safely back at shore, while I was thrashing with all my might. An angry tear slipped past my cheek, making the water just a little more saltier.

Heaving in a big breath, I gulped in more water and my weakened body wracked with both sobs and convulsions as my lungs burnt with what seemed like fire.

My legs were numb with the cold and it was as if an invisible hand was pulling me in to the depths of the dangerous lake. No, I tried to scream, but it came out like a muffled gasp. I kicked out again but all of a sudden, my legs felt like two dumb bells being attached to my hips. Bubbles of snot blew out through my nose as I took in my last breath of air and sank into oblivion.
